I haven't driven out of state with it yet, but since I'm not allowed to carry at work (unarmed security officer) I got a steer clear vehicle holster mount and the holster I use with it has a pretty secure thumb snap, so I don't think it would come out.

I drive most of my miles in a white Crown Vic, with the primary duty pistol in a Safariland level three retention holster, and an SP101 in a pocket holster. In the past, the SP101 or other snubby has ridden in Alessi or other ankle rigs. Everything has been OK during some substantial rear-end collisions.
Off the clock, I have used various open-top OWB and IWB rigs over the years while driving. I cannot recall which weapon and rig I was wearing when rear-ended HARD in 1985, causing my car to spin around, but the weapon did not dislodge. It may have been an HK P7 in an Bianchi Askins Avenger, or a revolver in some now-forgotten leather rig.

In the holster, fastened to my hip whee it always is. I don't tend to travel through states that do not honor my permit and now that we are back where we belong in Tennessee, I don't have to worry about that nearly as much as I did when we lived in Indiana.

On long trips, my weapon stays on my person.
For looooooong trips I use the Fist Cross-draw/Driving holster...

Back at the beginning of March, I drove my F-150 non-stop (except for gas) 1,654 miles from southern Ohio to El Paso, TX carrying my 5" 1911 in a Galco Summer Comfort IWB holster, which is the same way I carry about 95% of the time. I didn't find it uncomfortable at all.
Now the butt, neck and back muscles are a different story, but that had nothing to do with the fact I was carrying!
