I am looking into getting a decent priced rig but can't decide on what what looking for feedback on this please.
(i have a serpa level 2 holster for it and thought about the BlackHawk Shoulder Harness with Serpa Holster Platform)
Sorry about your back,I had Skip Richie of Richie Leather build me a shoulder rig for my XD 45 it's got two tiedowns seems to help with both back and shoulder fatigue. All the best..John
You should not assume that loading up your upper back with extra weight will be better than a weight around your waist. Also, there are some safety drawbacks to shoulder rigs and they may not be easy to conceal in a warm environment. Consider ankle carry and belly band. If none of those work for you, look into the T-shirt type of upper body carry. I find mine to be quite comfortable - tho you still have the problem of muzzling your left arm and at least 180 degrees of the environment when you draw....
i usealy wear a old BDU top with the sleaves cut off i wear it almost all the time (like the pockets and it also dont inprint the pistol) i am planing to use the belt
ties to help with that to keep it snug
I use parry suspenders under my shirt, they havs plastic clips that fasten under the belt so they can't unclip and it supports the weight on your shoulders, the "Outback" suspenders have 2 clips at 3 and 9 o'clock similar to how a shoulder holster system would fit
Getting a shoulder holster just might be the beginning of your holster box.
I've tried all kinds of holsters and the least used of ALL of them is my shoulder holster.
It was OK on the motorcycle, but a pain everywhere else.OMOYMV
My shoulder rigs were unbearable to wear after I developed back problems, so I sold them. Your results may differ, but a shoulder rig probably isn't going to be a great solution.
I have lower back issues also. As someone mentioned try Perry Suspenders. They have the regular style and the outback style. As mentioned the outback has only to belt clips. I have both and use either or depending on the situation. The style of belt clips allows one to take off/down pants without removing outer garments.
All Perry suspenders Perry Suspenders
I go through bad times with my back every few months and a few things that has worked was perry suspenders, you don't have to tighten your belt so tight. an ankle holster for my G27 or j-frame [galco ankle glove]. I also have a Galco miami classic holster fastened to Bianchi X-15 harness to carry my glock 23 or 27 that works great, very concealable and comfortable. I also have a shoulder holster for my j-frame. I have been useing these rigs for years and they work great. ideally I like to carry IWB appendix or strong side at 4:00.
I just checked out the perry suspenders outback style and they look great. I'll be getting some of those although they may be an issue with strongside carry.
I will be following this thread as my recent back surgery has me looking for options. While I have very nice TT holsters, I am not sure if they will aggravate or extend the recovery process. I typ. carry at 5:00-5:30 but may need to go more towards 3:00-3:30 so my hips carry more of the load.
Skip Richie Mfg the same exact shoulder rig ( The Bodyguard) That the Late Lou Alessi made for his company Alessi leather it's a fantastic holster. As I suffer from lower back & neck Disc problems also & this holster is great,& I carry a full size 1911 in it with no discomfort what so ever.
