Sold on Fanny Pack Carry
Just received a Hawkepaks Compact GunPak-1 and I have to say I'm sold on fanny pack carry.
Huge options as to the gun carried. My full size Steyr M9-A1 fits as does my S&W 442 inside a Desantis pocket holster.
This is a very small looking fanny pack, yet it can carry a very large gun and gives one a wide range of carry options.
I was shopping for a smaller carry 9mm now I'm not so sure. I was looking at a CZ PCR because it's DA/SA but now I'm not so sure as the Hawkepaks covers the Steyr trigger completely.
Count me in too!
I've been carrying in an old BagMaster fanny pack for over 20 years. Mine is so old, they don't make it any more. 20 years and no rips, tears, or wear spots in the cordura nylon. KGproducts.com/beltbags.html is the closest I've coming to matching my original.
I have several IWB holsters for Sig P238, Sig P938, Walther PPS, and a couple of snubbie .38 revolvers, but they all fit in the same fanny pack. Most of the time I'm carrying either the PPS or the 938, but regardless of which gun I choose, I simply insert it in the back of the pack and I'm good to go.
The advantage of the fanny pack is that once my wallet, cell phone, gun and spare mag are loaded up, I can be out the door quickly by grabbing the fanny pack and going. I wear a lot of shorts and shirts in the summer, and wearing the fanny pack doesn't look out of place in Florida with all the tourists around. It's also easier to work in the yard, run errands, etc because the pack is always on me.
Packs may not be for everyone, but I never have to worry about accidentally revealing the gun or having the gun print below a shirt. Some people think a fanny pack on a man screams "GUN!", but not in Florida. If you're having trouble finding a comfortable holster, try thinking outside of the box...er holster...and consider a fanny pack!
To each their own, but...
With today's fasions, a fanny pack 'stands out' a bit, depending on your environment. Dare I say it would 'clash' in most occasions?
I know if I used it, with the way I present myself, it would not work for me. However, I have friends who it would work for, and people would not even see it as odd.
It just depends.
I picked up a black leather one at one of the local shops about five years ago. Works great for me.
Haven't seen anyone wearing a fannypack in this area in years. When you did see them, they had a gun in them.

Ya, if that fits into your everyday attire thats cool. I would imagine that has to be one of the most comfortable ways to carry.
For me, there is NO WAY I could ever pull off wearing a fanny pack, lol. Just not my style.
But I say carrying all day everyday, thats all that really matters.
Not for me. But if you like it thats what counts.
Everytime I see one on a guy I think gun.
Sounds like maybe you haven't found the right holster yet if you're settling on a fanny "i have a gun" pack.
I grant you it doesn't work with a suit or a tuxedo but with any outdoor or active attire people never notice it. Lots of people here wear sweatpants in the winter.
It doesn't bother me that some people think gun every time they see a fanny pack. We have open carry in MN but I'd never want to do that.
What are you talking about? They go great with anything.
Have you tried this? It's a fanny hat.
It fits most guns that are compacts and smaller.
After giving this some consideration, I have decide against the fanny pack but I am going to start wearing parachute pants again.
This is getting a little...weird?
Fanny pack carry. It is what it is. I've done it before myself. I used to hike a lot, and it was easier to carry than IWB, and can hold the camera as well. Hidden in plain sight? Sure. I recently went on one of those tourism train rides where all of the attendants were wearing fanny packs. Thing is.........this was their change purse for taking funds from amenities served on the ride. I personally wanted to ask one of them if they were carrying a 9mm....but I didn't. Hey! You carry however you feel like it, and keep it simple. Just practice your draw from concealment as with any other method of carry. A fanny pack is likely gonna out you just like open carry in a lot of instances. Keep this in mind, and carry on!
