I have one holster. I carry the same gun (Kimber 4" 1911), in the same holster (Milt Sparks VM II), at the same position (4:00) every day. Simpler that way.

Most of the training iv'e done says to try and stick to one EDC and one holster. It's the only part of training that I don't adhere to.

I have all the types you listed and then a few custom jobs. I buy the holsters to fit the clothing I will be wearing that day. I figured that I could buy clothing to conceal or buy concealment to work with the clothing. Turns out to be a great excuse to buy lots of holsters!

I favor shoulder holsters (Galco Miami Classic) but since I retired I have found myself carrying on my hip more then ever. My favorite hip carry is a Yaqui(sp) paddle holster from Galco and an IWB Covert holster from El Paso Saddlery. When possible I will wear a military "tanker" holster when I bike. Two types of shoulder holsters and two types of belt holsters.

I currently use leather and nylon holsters. I haven't settled on a kydex one that I'd like to purchase yet. But I'm looking!
