I have read many but not all the posts. First off, since competition holsters are available with rare earth magnets to retain your firearm, I am going to say it is fine. So far as the trooper story with the MRI, I don't buy it. The hammer transfers a GREAT deal of engergy to the firing pin. for me to buy that the firing pin was so magnitized that the attraction to the side of the channel and resulting friction was GREATER than the force from the hammer, yeah, sounds like urban BS to me. Even a modified gun for competition transfers a lot of engergy, and bone stock gun, like a PD issue, transfers an obscene amount of force. I don't know the C of F of the two metals, but my guess would be the firing pin would need at minimum 5 or 10 pounds of attraction. MINIMUM probably more like 20 or 30 does not seem very likely when the laws of physics are brought to light.

My credit card was a "gun magnet" - for a while.

    Guns & Magnets ? Thoughts ?

I don't think they work very good with plymer guns.

The only reason I see not to is I question the ability of a magnet to both retain the gun in the event of a collision and easily release the gun in an emergency.

My prob with magnets is simple. Metal fragments stuck to one I used once. It scratched the piss outta the side of a nice firearm...
