I live a couple towns over, but less than 10 miles away from the explosion/fire. I didn't hear of any deaths or serious injuries, but there were some people treated for chemical inhalation at the hospitals.

It only took 18 hours for some people to file a class action suit against the company.

Had some write-up in local paper. Seems the place was for chem waste disposal, including pesticides and other nasty things.

Chances are the 'cocktail' of combustion byproducts was more than a little nasty. Probably some more detailed reports around by now.

From what I read and saw locally, they were more of a "consolidator" rather than a true disposal plant. They'd collect the stuff until the quantities were large enough to be shipped to another site for final processing or disposal. The largest chemical amount released into the air was chlorine, from the reports. They haven't said what made its way into the ground, but it can't be good. It rained pretty hard the day after and while the fire was still smoldering, so you know stuff got into the ground before the hazmat people got in there.
