    Question Any compact 1911 recommendations?

A buddy of mines has a compact 1911 that he carries daily as he operates his Bar and Janitorial businesses. I didn't want to get all in hus business asking for all the specs and info so I didn't get a manufacturers name. I like to carry with an in-pant holster, what are my options under $1K?

(I prefer .40 caliber but .9mm's are welcome, I've googled but i'd rather ask real humans with experience and opinions.)

1911's were designed for and run best with the 45 ACP. If you are wanting to stay with 40 S&W or 9mm, much better options are out there than 1911 in 40 or 9. If the 1911 45 is what you are after, Kimber is hard to beat in that price range.

Either a Kimber as suggested above or Springfield Armory, both good 45s.

I thoroughly enjoy my Sig Ultra. Not to heavy for carry, shoots well, recoil is extremely manageable. I picked it up for $925 OTD at my LGS. But I wouldn't kick a Springfield out of the safe.

When you say "compact" what barrel length do you mean? I have a Springfield Loaded Champion which has a 4" barrel and I really like it. They can be hard to find, but under 1000.

Springfield makes a nice one. If you want really small, the Sig Sauer P238 is a .380 version of the 1911 that operates the same, but is smooth, small and drops right into the pocket and disappears.

I just picked up a 1911 in .45 w/ 4.33 bbl made by, Desert Eagle / Magnumm Reserch for under $ 800. It is a good cheep 1911 for a carry gun.if you drop it or kick it around it will stand up to tough carry duty. I have a COLT and soon to get a SIG.
