i keep mine in a gun vault with key or numeric pad in my nightstand. It stays locked as I have two small children, but is accessible if I need it. It gives me a good piece of mind to know the kids can't get to the firearm, but my wife or I can quickly.
If I was a bachelor, I would mount the XD factory holster to the bed like it was shown here, but not with kids. if they knew enough not to play with it, they would definitely use it as a step in the morning!

    Wall Vault

I really like the idea of that wall vault mentioned above. Here is a good video of it if anyone is interested...

    Dan M,

Thats a great idea.......its nice to know that piece of junk that came with my XD-45 might actually be worth something. I was ready to send it to the plastic recycler.

Could you provide a couple more details please?
What type of batteries and how many? How long is the battery life? Does it have a AC plug? How easy was it to install? what happens when the batteries are low? (My GunVault won't open if it has just enough to take the code but can't kick out the solenoid)
    Is there a key backup?
Anything else you think we should know?

RIVITUP. I wont embarrass you by asking how you know.....

Thanks Kentuckycarry. I was acutally researching ideas to mount a holster to the back of my nightstand. You made me stop and think. That few extra seconds to get my head together would be a smart move. Just gotta figure out the best place now.
