    trying leather

I have previous experience only with kydex holsters. After reading opinions of many who prefer leather, I decided to try a leather holster.

I got a High Noon Slide Guard OWB. The quality seems fine and the G21 fits the holster well.

I was wearing it around the house for the first time and my wife said "You're squeaking!" I admitted I was trying out the new holster and explained that one reason I was trying it was that it fit more snugly against my side than the OWB kydex I have been using. She said that the visual concealment factor might be improved, but not the auditory concealment factor.

So I have a question for you experienced leather chauvinists: am I going to permanently sound like a saddled horse wearing the holster, or will it eventually quiet down?

Rub a little baby or talcum powder into the leather (cleans up really easy), that should stop it.

I have yet to have a problem with a holster squeeking. I keep my business with the made 1 at a time custom guy's found on here and elsewhere and never had that problem yet.

High Noon is a good holster company but it's production made and possibly the difference with the squeeking.

Works well! I did it to my Highnoon Holster Topless model.

Strangely enough, my Highnoon Horsehide Slideguard is the only leather I have that squeeks. I've got holsters from Tucker, RafterS, KDHolsters and UBG and none of them squeek.

I like the Highnoon a lot, but seldom wear it for the racket. I dropped them a note, and they advised that it would eventially break in - I just haven't felt like sounding like a walking chewtoy in the interim.

    Hi Guys!
Squeek comes from one of two sources: Either it is due to the holster rubbing against the belt at it's attachment point, or it was not properly glued together when it was being made.
Talc, wax or corn starch will fix the first source. A new holstermaker is the only solution to the second. Good luck!

Interesting. I just wiggled my Highnoon and it doesn't squeak a bit off body, so it's definitely rubbing against the belt.

All my other holsters and my belt are beef wrappers - I wonder if it's the interface between the horsehide and the cowhide?

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Raytracer, like yours mine is horsehide also. I will try the powder cure.

If I ever decide to try another leather holster, I will definitely try a Brommeland holster.
