I know why we try to keep our carry guns from printing and I know the benefits from the element of surprise but maybe the suspicion of carrying is not all bad ........

I read somewhere that in Florida after they started to allow CCW that the bad guys started to avoid residents as they MIGHT be carrying a firearm. Instead they started targeting rental cars as they were more likely to be non residents and were much less likely to be armed.

So by that same school of thought if I am not looking for trouble and some bad guy thinks I MIGHT be using my vest to cover a firearm chances are he will avoid me and my family as a target. Maybe not, but if one bad guy does pass me buy as a potential target than that is one less confrontation I have to deal with. I am pretty sure nobody wants to use that firearm so maybe the vest is not all bad.

Well now were I to buy a vest with the NRA logo I would add a Fly Fishers patch, an american hunters patch, Bass Fishers patch , shooting club patch, Photography club patch LEAA patch, VFW patch, old Military patches and any thing else I found laying around.

My Fly Fishing vest has 4 patches on it and I just may add an NRA patch.

Yep. Unless you've got a lot of camera equipment hanging around your neck....

Or a fly pole in your hand.

I shoot a lot of IDPA and wear a 5.11 vest. I also wear it "on occasion" while carrying. Its the best thing I have found to actually conceal a gun and be able to draw with any speed. I was curious and asked a lot of my friends if they noticed anything strange about me wearing the vest. They said "Guess you like vests". They didn't have a clue I was carrying. Now the people I shoot with say it screams 'gun', but to the normal person (sheep) it means nothing.

In my climate I wear all types of vests and none look out of place--sweater vests, Cabela's safari vest, and especially a microfiber vest.

Here it is not unusual for someone to wear a vest in spring, fall or winter; even in summer on a cool evening or windy day. And, no, they do NOT "scream gun".

Just today we went for coffee to a Panera Bread shop and I wore a black microfiber vest to cover the Kramer MSP paddle holster. They are usually a "golfy" type of attire, but with jeans, a black one looked just fine. They tend to blouse up with extra material just above the waist area, right where cover is needed. I suggest checking out this type of vest for a cover garment. For a look at what I'm talking about, here's a link: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...vest&noImage=0

I tend to like to use an open button-up type shirt for cover. Or a sweater/sweatshirt. A vest may not scream "gun" to normal people (whoever they are) but to a gun person and probably a criminal they may give an indication. Why risk it?

That microfiber vest OTH looks interesting.

    Why risk it?
Because I've found that it covers a lot better than an open shirt. It's a lot heavier and doesn't blow open as easily. And I can use the pockets.

I don't care if another gun legal gun owner notices it -- I'm not worried about them. As for criminals knowing about it, personally I think that's giving them too much credit.
