Question for the 1911 EDC tribe....

How are you handling the beavertail? I'm looking at holster options (DeSantis mad max as a temp) and my only real issue with this portfolio is the side-poking.

Before the cascade of holster recommendations, a few points: it needs to tuck and attach to the belt (not the pants).

I know I'll be fiddling with it until I get it right, but I wondered if it's just me.

check out Cleveland Holsters. I got one for my 1911 and love it. The body coverage and adjustability are great.

Been using Wild Bill’s Concealment Covert Carry and Summer Heat for many years, the Covert Carry is tuckable even though I normally leave my shirt tail out. Both ride low enough that I have never had any poking or gouging from a beavertail grip.

I've got a few Crossbreeds, and I'm sure the SuperTuck would solve the problem by providing a solid sweat shield. I'm kind of liking the idea of an all-leather rig for this one, so I'm doing some homework. I've got an email out to MTR Custom leather to see how much of the firearm his sweat shield covers.

My regular EDC is a TRP, and two 8 round spare mags, so not exactly feather weight.

A little Background: I work in the construction industry, so climb ladders, work arms above my head, bending and lifting all day, most of the time in the presence of clients. And while none have polices forbidding firearms on site, MOST would be very unhappy to find out. I regularly carry wearing only a T-shirt as a cover shirt, and so far my firearm has yet to be noticed.

What works best for me is a Black Ops Pro holster and mag carrier by Pure Kustom that I have been using to for the last 2 years. This holster is IWB, carries tight against the body and distributes the weight of the firearm very nicely. And you have all kinds of adjustment for getting just the right Cant or ride depth.

I use an OWB with a strong forward cant. No problems with regard to getting poked.

Check out DM Bullard OWB, their holsters have a strong cant and seem to conceal the best so far. I also recommend Pure Kustom, which can be used either IWB or OWB. Great for travel when you want options and carry only one holster. For IWB I use a supertuck with the sweat shield (not the combat cut).

To clarify, IWB tuckable is the only option for this particular holster.

I've adjusted my placement a little forward (the hammer is a little forward of 3 o'clock) and I'm noticing a huge different in comfort. Thanks for the tips...keep 'em coming. I'm all for research!

Can't really say I've had a problem in regard to getting poked by the grip safety in all the years I've carried a 1911.

TJK68, I don't think the VM II will work for me. To make them tuckable means clips that don't attach to the belt, and that's not an option for me. I've tried it out, and I don't like it at all.

I realize Milt Sparks has some seriously devoted fans, and I'm sure that's directly connected to having a great product. But I don't think it will do what I want it to do.

Are you overweight? Love handles lap over the grip safety?

If so, maybe think about a different carry location.

Deadguy, no. 5'7", 160. The gun doesn't dig constantly but enough to be annoying.

Lots of good suggestions. Main thing is to have a heat shield that covers the beaver tail as it can poke you. I currently have a Tagua IWB that works well but I want to get something nicer soon.
