I need help with a belt please!!
I have a Def-Con holster I got from Gary(great guy and a truly outstanding holster). The gun belt I am useing has started to soften up around the back slot by the holster.(Yes it is a Gun belt)I am thinking about ordering a belt from thebeltman. My question is if I order a horse hide belt in 11/2 should I go ahead and get the plastic liner?Or is that a little overkill I just don't want this to happen again its realy agrivateing(sp)to have this happen
.Thank you for your help.

I would contact The Beltman and ask him if he is using hard-rolled or soft-rolled horsehide. (Two different treatments in the tanning process of horse). If the belt is hard-rolled, I really see no need for the plastic liner or how it would even be beneficial, as you'll take quite a bit of daily wear before you can even break-in a hard-rolled belt. It is that stiff. If he's using soft-rolled, the liner can't hurt and you may want to opt for it.

Glad to hear that you like your Def-Con! A good belt will not usually require a stiffener, so long as it is made from really primo leather.
I'll second what Mark said - hard rolled horsehide should be more than stiff enough.

While I love leather holsters and other gear, over a year ago I started wearing a Liger belt and love it...I even bought a second one so I'd have black and brown. Here's the link:

Another option would be the Wilderness Tactical 5 Stitch Instructors belt. They offer really great performance for $39.95.

Check out RaftersS. You can get a sharkskin belt from them for about $60 or a good cowhide for $40! Service is quick and they are great people to deal with unfortunately most of these folks are probably at the SHOT show and won't be back tillnext week.

I made the mistake of getting a belt (from FIST) with the plastic insert. It's like wearing a steel barrel hoop around my waist. It has never really broken in and doesn't contour to my body. Don't do it.

I bought one of those off the rack in one of our local shops. I had looked at them on the company website and read some good forum comments before, but I was really impressed actually trying one on.

I've been thinking about one of those Liger belts. Anyone else use one?
I have a beltman belt and love it. I also have a Wilderness belt. Those are nice too.

If you check the Beltman site they explain what the stiffener is for and who needs it. If your a 36 inch or better waistline you will probably want the stiffener. I am a 36 inch waist. I really enjoy the stiffener. Rafters does not and will not install a stiffener so I went with the Beltman. Damn glad I did. My Rafters now plays second fiddle.

I'm on a serious budget and can't do the 100 + bucks for a belt. I was looking at the belts from Looper Leather. Anyone have one... like it or no?

I have one of the Beltman's belts in 1 1/2 inch width with no plastic stiffener. It is a high quality belt and I love it. I also wear a wilderness tactical 5.11 belt with more casual pants and it it also a great belt for supporting the weight of a firearm.
