    Tapered Gun Belts

What are you guys using for belts, I measure the loops on typical jeans and found they'll take a 2" belt tightly fitted in the loops. I like the type that is 1 3/4" or 2" but tapers to 1" in the buckle section.

Will be carrying a 1911 in a paddle and want great support from the belt but the low profile of the tapered buckle area, any suggestions for under $75. Don't need anything fancy like basket weaves or shark skin, just something stout and tough.

Check out beltman....he has exactly what you're looking for: tapered belts, made especially for supporting holsters.

Ditto on the Beltman. I got a 1.5 belt that tapers to 1.25. Just be aware that, if necessary, you can't have a tapered belt shortened. So you may have to stick to the ol' bacon ice cream diet...

What is the advantage of a tapered belt?

A narrower belt looks dressier...and for some, it is also more comfortable not having as much width in the front, especially if you have a spare tire...

From all the talk about beltman I'm gonna have to check him out, can someone give me a link to his website.

I personally do have a Galco tapered belt that I've used for years. It has a stiffner in it and goes from 1.5" to 1" and looks real nice even after all these years.

    Hey Tony,

In addition to Leather's answer regarding the advantage of the taper, I think it will help keeping a low profile and not announcing you've got a big thick belt on, common sense would tell me that a guy was wearing a 2 inch belt for a reason....like supporting a holstered pistol.

The tapered belt would look the best with a sport coat or some kind of jacket/vest covering the sidearm and the fatter portion of the belt and pistol.

Definitely the dressier looks, agree on the spare tire too, how'd you know? LOL!
