If I had a nickel for every bargain that I found at Goodwill, I would be rich. Also I found a good Eddie Bauer vest at a Goodwill store
I have three of the Smith & Alexander vests, khaki, green and blue.
They are dressier than the 5.11 and MUCH lighter. I use them a lot in the summer.
Looking at the Vest option again. Yes it screams GUN to those in the know but I wonder if it does to the BG's. As much as I do not want to use a vest it is a very good cover garment. My long shirts are not working as good as I like so here I am again looking at vests.
I like the 511 but it looks a bit heavy and warm for summer use. I have located a couple nice travel vests of modern materials such as Omni Tech that are cool and dry fast but they do not go up to my size. While I hate the photo or tactical type vest I think they would actualy fit in better around here than a dressier type vest would.
No there is not a question here guys just rambling and hoping someone else has come up with the "perfect" idea.
Especially if you are stupid enough to buy the black one.
When it is colder out its great, but in summer it sort of sucks. Instead of buying a different color for summer use though I think I'll follow some of the advise in this thread and find a lighter weight and lighter color summer vest.
Originally bought the 5.11 for IDPA, but it ended up being one of my primary cover garments.
Picked up my vest at Goodwill, cheap $3.00

Anybody shopping for a vest might want to check out this post.
Seems we have a Woolrich Elite dealer in our midst.
They have and Elite Vest and a Descrete Carry Vest. Both look nice. The Descrete Carry Vest is a bit more than some others but looks like a good option. I think I will check into it.
LL Bean has an explorer vest with many pockets 6 outside and 10 inside. I recently received mine. It will carry my Glock27 in an inside pocket just fine and covers belt holster with no print through.
Other pockets carry light and mags secure and confortable.
abt $86.00 shipped. Go to LLBean.com to view.

Check out Orvis. They have a poplin vest that has a mesh in the back and it's vented in the back... very "cool" in hot weather.
I have one and it's not at all "tactical" looking.

Here is the vest mentioned in my prior post.
First time attaching a picture hope it comes out.
I searched many sites most mentioned here and
came to the conclusion this was the best buy.
Received it a few days ago and it is great.
I guess if you live by a stream, or work for National Geographic they wouldn't look out of place...but for everyday wear I can't pull one off.... but kudos to those that do...
