    IWB Mag Pouches

Okay, from what I've been reading on the net (a search didn't find me anything here), these are supposed to be very uncomfortable to use. Especially in a double mag format.

Now, no offense to anyone, but I'm wondering if a lot of people say this because they are somewhat overweight and it is indeed very uncomfortable. Nothing wrong with that, but that's not my problem in this situation.

Has anyone tried them and really found them to be that awful? Looking for some good opinions here before I shell out 40-60 bucks on one that I might end up hating. I have an OWB carrier now, and I absolutely hate the thing. It's a cheapie, but it prints like crazy. I generally trust you a guys a lot more than other forums (for obvious reasons), so tell me what you think CC.

Im currently waiting for an IWB tuckable mag holder from http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/

Haven't got it yet, but it looks pretty comfy. It's only one mag, but the odds of needing even that as a civvy. are pretty slim

Oh yeah, Mike (or maybe it was Mark) was very helpful and friendly, and offers a no-questions-asked money back guarantee if you don't like his stuff after wearing it for 2 weeks.

I don't think just overweight people find them uncomfortable..you would think if a gun is okay, then a mag would be no problem but a gun is spread out more inside your pants....mags are narrow and tend to dig in more...especially if the base plates are sharp.....

An IWB Mag pouch is the next accessory item I'm planning to make. I have only looked at a couple out there.

    Sammy,
There are a few reasons most people find IWB mag pouches uncomfortable, and not just overweight folks. First off, with an IWB holster, the pressure from the belt is distributed across the entire width of the pistol and holster; quite a width especially with the off-set loop design IWBs (one reason many find them most comfortable). With an IWB mag-pouch, all of th belt pressure is concentrated on top of that 1 inch of mag width, pressing it into your side.
Next reason: most mags are not that long. Be it with a holster or mag, there has to be enough of the object seated down below the waistband in order to prevent it from feeling like it is going to pop out and tumble up and over the waistband. With most mags, when seated that deep IWB, adequate acessabilty is compromised because there is not enough of the mag exposed above the the waistband to grab on to.
I recommend a pancake style OWB mag-pouch with front and rear slots. If you look at photos of these from various makers, you will see that there is usually 1/2 inch or less of mag or pouch below the belt line, so they are very concealable even under a rather short-waisted covering garment; and they hug the body tight. They will provide better access and comfort than IWB, and sacrifice nothing in the concealment area.

This sounds very doable. Do you by chance have a couple links to examples of what you're referring to?

I have used a Bianchi Model 10A IWB magazine pouch for years, and have never found it, or an IWB holster, uncomfortable...just lucky, I guess. IWB for both is my preferred method of carry. Unfortunately, Bianchi has dropped the Model 10A from its lineup.

Mark, well said! Most people who order IWB mag holsters are fore warned against them and 90% of the time I get a call back to order a pancake style setup.

Mark pretty well nailed it. Not much that I can add, really. My mag pouches are OWB, but conceal most mags well even under a tee shirt. They conceal so well, and are so much more comfortable that we discontinued all of our IWB mag pouches about 15 years ago.

I occassionally wear a Milt Sparks IWB mag pouch.

I don't find it to be uncomfortable at all.

Ill expand on this a tad. Most double stack mags arent even close to comfortable. Some people can TOLERATE 1911 mags as they are wider and thinner than a typical 9mm or 40 mag. Thus, some can live with a 45 acp mag for a while IWB...but even most who try that go back to carrying OWB.

Would the double IWB mag pouches not cover enough surface area to alleviate the strain?

I looked at yours last night, but the order by mail thing made you kinda last on the list atm. They look great, but really want to flesh out the IWB mag pouch idea first.

bending at the waist can make iWB carry worse too. I don't see a real advantage in a IWB mag pouch. As Mark said, most pouches barely drop below the belt line. since a cover garment will be needed to conceal the gun/mags anyway.................
