    Depends on the weapon

I use a thumbreak with all holsters for my BHP. I like that piece of leather between the hammer and firing pin while carrying. I don't use it primarily as a retention device.

I don't use one with my with my revolvers (except for the one duty holster with retention features left over from my security days) or Glock.

    It happened to me....

On January 2m 2005, I was walking across a parking lot in an underground garage in Charleston, WV. I was wearing a Glock 26 in an open top Mad Dog Gun Glove IWB rig.

A car came around the curve too fast, struck me, and threw me on the hood, breaking the windshield.

I flew off the hood and the glock popped right out of the holster, did somersalts across the parking lot and came to rest against a wall. A cop ended up finding it and giving it to my dad, who was with me.

I ended up going to the ER with an empty holster, which concerned the dr to no end.

If I had been wearing a strapped down gun, would it have flown out? I don't know. I do know I don't like a loaded 9mm pistol, especially mine, flying across the road.

I can get around on a cane right now. However, I have two different compression fractures in my spine. Not much fun.

I can't carry without pain. Been talking to Gary Brommeland about holster options, and he suggests I get a Kel Tec 32 or 380 and carry it in a pocket holster for the time being, or get an Alessi shoulder holster and carry a J frame.

I'm currently gun shopping for the KT. I have a vintage Chief's special, and might get it out as well.

Hopefully, after some rehab, I'll be able to get back to carrying a full-size sidearm.

On the other hand, I've lost a heck of a lot of weight!

Lawrence - I wish you the speediest of recoveries - I hate pain but also - I'd be well upset if my carry potential was compromized too.

Dependent on funds .. a Rohrbaugh R9 would fit the bill nicely - small - and - 9mm too. Smoothest of smooth 7 lb D/A.
