    Low-Ride Holsters

Ok, after that last outing with a Blackhawk CQC and the other OWB holsters I've had for various other handguns, I think I know what my problem is with finding a holster. They are all high-ride that I can find. What I need to find is something that rides lower than standard. AS I found with the Blackhawk, the draw pulls the grip directly up into my ribs, hindering extraction. Any good suggestions on who makes a low-ride one?

Check out the Rangemaster made by C. Rusty Sherrick. Don't have the link handy but a search will turn it up.

It doesn't seem to be any different from other makes.

Look at where the curve of the trigger guard is in relation to the top of the belt or belt loop. Compare it to others and you will get an idea how much lower it is than others.

The rangemaster will bring the grip down about an inch lower than a standard belt holster and much lower than one marked "hi-ride". Keep in mind that a little makes a big difference.

Also, the Rangemaster is cut low in the front which means the muzzle clears the holster body sooner. This means the gun doesn't have to be raised as much before presenting toward the target.

I have the same trouble you do and I experience either the holster angling into my torso during carry (thus muzzle sticks out and prints) or my body itself interfers with the drawstroke.

What are you carrying and for what purpose. I have several holsters that "fixed" my problem and may be able to help you futher if I have a little more info.

XD9-Subcompact. Yes it's a 3" barrel, but everything just angles it right up into my ribs. Apparently I have a short torso. I can barely place my right hand between my lower ribs and my waistline where my belt rides, I actually have to move the thumb under the other fingers.
