    Does your leather stink?

I was talking with a member of my IDPA club and he said that if he wanted to wear his leather IWB holster he would have to have 3 of them. Wear one for a day rotate to another while the first dries out. He said that kydex did not have a problem with that since it could be washed and be dry in a matter of minutes.

What is everyone elses experience? Does the leather against your skin get ripe? Is this a problem?

Have more trouble with my caps stinking (or so says my wife who keeps bugging me about letting them die a natural death). IWB I always have a t-shirt under to keep the grip from rubbing my hide off, and it probably helps, I live in a dry climate.

If you are getting sweaty, just grab a handful of snow - it'll stop your sweat pretty fast.

That guy must sweat like a horse!

I frequently wear my VM-II in the summer against my skin... no smell and not even wet when I take it off.

Mine smells like smoke. The maker was a smoker and the smell is still there.

Cheap POS store bought leather, I can see it.

A real leather holster, made by a real leather craftsman, not a problem.

Sounds like your buddy, sweats like a pig.

All my leather still smells like 'good' leather...

I always wear IWB's with a summer T, under a regular T-shirt or open print shirt...

Thanks for the feedback. The person who made the comment is pretty hefty, and this is Texas even if we have not officially hit 100 this year yet.

Horsehide is much more resistant to sweat absorbtion, and worth the upgrade if offered by the manufacture. Like mildew in towels, etc..., once it sets in, its virtually impossible to get out. In more humid climes, it isn't uncommon to see someone's holster selection with a mild coat of mildew regardless of wear its worn. Aside from avoiding direct leather contact, spraying underarm or body talc deodorant on the contact area is a way to reduce the problem - more preventive than restorative.

I sweat like a farm animal, and sure kydex or other non-porous materials are best, but not nearly as comfortable as leather or leather combinations for IWB wear.

Soak it in Febreeze! Use some good leather cleaners like Leatherique.
