This is Remy, Gary's wife. I just wanted to let you all know that Gary was admitted to the hospital this afternoon. He has a DVT (blood clot) and stress induced hypertension and high blood sugar. We knew his blood pressure was too high, but I didn't realize that stress could also cause elevated blood sugar. And apparently standing at the bench for 12 or more hours at a stretch, 5-6 days a week isn't good for you - who knew!
We started our adventure at the hospital nearest our home, but after poking, prodding and drawing enough blood to take a bath, they transfered him to a larger hospital where they continued where they had left off. It has been a lovely day...
They pumped him full of some new and improved wonder drugs, but we won't know how long they are keeping him hostage until after a battery of tests and ultrasounds tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. Thanks so much, Remy
Major messages of comfort and encouragement to Gary please Remy.
Hope things smooth out and let us know how things progress if you can. Believe me - stress is a wicked influence on our bodies - and gets worse as we get older too!
Prayers being sent out right now. I really hope everything goes good for the both of you and your family. Tell that young fella to take a vacation/slow down a little bit after he gets back home. Yes, people want leather goods, but health is more important than anything else in this world. Keep us informed. David
Our prayers for Gary - and you.
It's no fun being the spouse either when you are worried for your husband and tired of hospitals and all the fun they create.
As stated by all above our thoughts and prayers are with you both. Now be sure you take care of yourself in this time of stress. We don't both of you down.
Mike
Well, it's not in Gary not to worry. I had left home early this morning to take our 14 yr old in for braces. When I got back home at lunch time Gary was limping and had had some chest pain. I had been bugging him all weekend to go to the hospital and he finally(!) agreed that maybe he needed to go. But does he go get in the truck so we can leave? No, no he does not. What he does do is finish some holsters so I can ship them tomorrow even if he is admitted.
And when I came home without Daddy this evening our youngest child became hysterical and it took me a half hour to convince her that he wasn't going to die (he better not!) and she could go see him tomorrow. He doesn't know it yet, but there are going to be some changes around here....I'm gonna get him healthy if it kills him!
Remy,
You and Gary will be in my prayers tonight. Take care, DVT is serious business. Don't worry about filling orders, I'm sure we will all be happy to wait a while longer.
Wow! Thank you all so much - I will be sure to pass along all of your prayers and well wishes to Gary. He doesn't take confinement or inactivity well (he almost drove me crazy when he had the flu this past winter). But when I spoke to him last (the kids called to say goodnight) he had discovered a newfangled invention that had him distracted - a television. We aren't big tv watchers (we get 2, no make that mostly 3 channels) and frequently days go by without our television being turned on. But the hospital has (gasp!) cable. He was watching a special on the history of the AK-47 when we called. Hopefully the novelty won't wear off before they let him out.
Remy, my prayers for the fast recovery of Gary.
And please tell him that if he does not rest and follows docotor's orders, we will all switch to kydex!
Keep us posted and vent whenever you need. I know we guys become worse than kids when sick.
