My New Milt Sparks Holster
My new OWB holster for my Colt Commander is a Sparks #60-TKH (Horsehide), purchased from the holster gurus at Lightning Arms Sports. Fastest and friendliest service on the planet! :king:
Overall quality and workmanship (evenness of color and stitching) is flawless. The moulding of the leather to the pistol is excellent (I'm told that horsehide is difficult to work with in this respect), resulting in a snug fit, not loose but not tight, either. The holster, which is unlined, easily passed the inverted shake test.
It took a monumental effort to thread my 1.5 inch Rafter S gunbelt through the belt slots the first few times. However, this is a good thing. This means that the holster does not move or shift position on the belt. The tight belt to holster fit pretty much eliminates annoying "leather creak".
Comfort and ease of draw are subjective topics, but for me, this rig is comfortable and easy to draw from (as well as reholstering), when worn at my preferred 3 o'clock position. The pistol rides about an inch or so higher, compared to my Sparks Summer Special IWB holster worn at the same position. This poses no problems for me.
Concealability is excellent, IMO, under a denim vest or light windbreaker, somewhat less so under an untucked sportshirt, when standing upright. Bending over at the waist or sitting in a chair allows the pistol butt to "print", but becomes less noticeable as the weight of the covering garment material increases. Once again, this poses no problem for me.
Finally, my congratulations to Milt Sparks Leather for a superb product. I'm completely satisfied.
