Any holster makers here? I have an idea....

I had a idea for a holster recently and I was wondering if a holster maker on here might want to have a look at it.

If the idea works, I'm not looking to make money or anything so drop me a line.

Okay. As soon as I can find the proper way to express the idea, I'll do that.

I maintain a website for a maker, all custom work.
Would you like me to have him PM you?

Thanks, but there's no need to keep it private. In fact, once I can find a way to illustrate it properly, I'll welcome everyone's input here.

Okay, here we go. If I don't get laughed off the board for the idea, then I might get laughed off for the drawings.

Anyway, the idea is for a form of "beltless IWB" carry, which might be really useful in the summertime or year round for those of us who don't care for belts.

We've all seen these racks in the clothing stores:

Look at the snaps. They're basically cheap plastic with a small metal clip that snaps over them, but they're surprisingly strong. I've seen some pretty heavy garments help up by these.

Now, let's suppose that you made some of these that were thinner but stronger and better quality. Using a Sparks VMII for illustration purposes ONLY (the holster part isn't my idea, only the attachment method), let's try this:

So we have our good-quality snaps in place and we hook them over the side of the pants and.....

    ..... beltless IWB.

Granted, it wouldn't be as supportive as a sturdy belt, but it would probably be as solid as a ClipDraw, which a lot of people swear by. As long as you aren't into the baggy pants thing and your pants fit pretty well, this might make a decent alternative.

    Okay, hit me!

Not bad, but I feel my belt helps support the weight of the gun/holster and spreads the weight out. This is why many of us advocate the use of a sturdy/ stiff/ thick belt.

Isn't that similar concept as the Alessi Talon clip?

I am not familiar with this, but:

The OP may be on to something.

    Rocky's got it.

The weight of the firearm would drag your pants to the ground. You would have to have some pretty tight pants to go without a belt.

I like the idea though. Keep em coming.

Not necessarily. I mean, ClipDraw is rather popular, and not everyone who uses one wears a belt, I'm sure.

I for one like the idea. I usually wear a belt anyway (mostly habit) but it's ideas like this that define innovation.

I could see this work for summer shorts with a draw string for example and maybe a featherlite type gun.

How would this work without a belt any better than any other holster? Your design may not utilize a belt but it does not make up for the support provided by one.

I would buy it. As a woman, I don't always wear a belt by choice. And I have yet to see a gun belt that is the least bit feminine looking, though there may be some out there I haven't seen yet. My EDC is either a Kahr or a Keltec, depending, so there is no problem with weight factor. When I carry my bigger guns around the farm, etc, I'm usually carrying OWB, anyway.

I like your idea ALOT. I do, infact, use clip draw on the KT and love it, except the safety factor- this means I usually have the KT in a pocket holster, but clipped where I want it. A holster designed like that to start with would solve the problem!

I had a G27 in a MS VMII that I wore with just the clips and it worked quite well. Good idea.
