    Fist revolver holsters

I've had a couple of Fist holsters for about 2 weeks now, the #12 Basic OWB pancake, and I wanted to comment on them. I needed holsters for a 3.5" N-frame S&W revolver and have had trouble finding someone to make them. Fist said they could make their holsters for any barrel length so I ordered one in black and another in mahogany.

I got the holsters in 5 weeks, which was great, and I've used both several times and really like them. They're very well made and the leather is very firm, and of course like most pancakes they're very comfortable and stable, even with my heavy guns. The fit and retention are perfect, and the holsters required no major break-in.

I do have a couple of issues which are not major. The first one is the color of the mahogany holster, which is a very dark burgundy color in normal light, but under flourescent light turns almost black. I think they may have dyed it cordovan rather than mahogany, but that still doesn't explain the drastic color change under the different lighting. They told me that they can try to lighten the color but it doesn't always work out, so I'm just going to keep it as it is.

The second issue could have been a big problem but actually worked out. Both holsters were supposed to have been made for a 3.5" barrel but the black holster was made longer, apparently for a 4". You can see in the pictures that the mahogany one is cut straight across the bottom and the black one is more rounded. So it may have been accidental rather than intended for a 4". Either way it worked out because after I placed the order I bought a 4" S&W .44 revolver so I need the holster anyway. I suppose if I hadn't bought the 4" gun I could have returned the holster and had it trimmed down.

All in all I'm happy with the quality of the holsters, especially for the price and quick delivery time. At $60 each I think they're a bargain and much better quality than the similar Galco products I found for a large revolver. They will serve me well until I can have some top quality custom leather made for my guns.

I got the basic #12 for my XD40SC and love it. I also got one for my 642 and it is the most comfy way for me to carry. Well worth the money, great turn around time and good people to deal with.

    I have 2 doz+ Fist holsters...most are with a clip.
    I do have a #12 for my Glock-36.

They are all great holsters. If there is a problem, they WILL make it right. Additionally, after the first 8-10 (can't remember exactly) there is a 29% discount.

    Gotta' love Fist...

Wow, well that's certainly a goal worth shooting for! Now that I've seen the quality of their stuff I'm sure I'll be ordering some more in the future, though mainly as a quick utility/fill-in alternative. Thanks for the info.

I bought a Fist #14 for my GP100. I liked it so much that I bought #46 for my S&W 686. I waited 5 weeks for the #14 and 7weeks for the #46. The quality and fit of these holsters along with the quick turnaround time makes them very good value IMO.

Quick utility/fill-in compared to what? they are truly on par with virtually all othe makers out there....i personally feel that many of the vaulted makers out there are simply over-rated...these are gun holsters for heaven sake... i have many holsters by many makers...
the single FIST holster i have is an excellent holster....does a perfect job of carrying my uspc, well concealed, secure ready for action and does so looking attractive and well made.....i certainly do not owe FIST anything, but to sell their products so short i believe is inappropriate and unwarranted...rant off

FIST makes a really nice holster.
That being said if a member wants to buy one as a fill in/alternative then that is his prerogative.
If he wants to buy one and throw it away he can do that too.
Last time I checked this was still America.
He really does not need to explain himself unless he wants to...so no need for a rant.

Sorry, I didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. The holsters are fine, but I've decided that all of my main carry rigs should be fancy exotic stuff. Not counting the holsters I bought used from ebay, I ordered 12 holsters directly from makers in the last year and 10 of them were with exotic skin, plus the 2 from Fist. I received 3 from UBG and 2 from Fist fairly quickly, the others I'm still waiting on. So I'm very glad to have the high quality holsters from Fist rather than having to settle for a mediocre factory product, but they were not intended to be my permanent carry solution.

Just for a quick comparison of the difference in quality that I admire and seek, here's a picture of my Garrity custom holster for a 4" N-frame (unfortunately without exotic trim) alongside the Fist holster I just got. Both holsters work fine but I prefer and am glad to pay and wait for the higher level of detail work that some makers can provide.
