I use a Kramer pocket holster. I like it a lot. If you get one, practice drawing your unloaded firearm with pressure towards the middle of your pants as you draw so that you never end up with the holster still stuck to your gun. In jeans, it usually stays put. In shorts with large pockets, there's a chance that you'll pull the holster out with the gun under stress.

Practice. Practice. Practice. Ten quick draws per night in a dry-fire area of your home should be sufficient to become proficient. (I bought a Desantis Nemesis to try out, and I didn't like it. I still use my Kramer.)

    Good luck,

    straightShot

    +2 on Mika.

Simple, effective design. It's my favorite carry in warm weather.

Pretty good holster maker (Steve) for pocket carry of J-frames right here on the board. I had my 642 in one of his holsters all day today in the right front pocket of my jeans.

It is a very comfortable, well made holster that is reasonably priced at $25.00 and that included the shipping. Steve also has a very fast turnaround time.... I paypal'd Steve on December 12, I had the holster 11 days later. It was made exactly how I wanted it with rough side out and the 'wings' to help hold the holster in the pocket.

Here's a thread on his holsters, seems to be a lot of satisfied customers:

This is a photo from Steve of a holster like the one I ordered from him:

I got a well used Mika with my 642. I used it for a couple months, then bought a Desantis Nemesis for $15. It is a very nice holster. It will stay my primary pocket holster.

Mika...easily the quickest presenting pocket holster I own. Because of the Mika holster, I probably carry the 642 more than any other weapon. Mika is one LEO who knew exactly what he was making after two decades searching for a decent pocket holster.

Safariland. Rough suede outside and "hard" slick inside. Stays put in the pocket for sure when you draw.

I alternate between carrying an M85 ultra-lite in a round cut Mika and an SP101 in an IWB AKJ Concealco. l love both holsters.

The draw from the Mika is great. It is very comfortable. I usually forget it is in my pocket as I go about my day.

The price, quality, and service from Mika can't be beat.

As an aside, I find the Riggs workwear ripstop carpenter pants an excellent pant for pocket carry. The pants are tough, comfortable, and the pockets are deep and sturdy. The cargo pockets help conceal perfectly and I just carefully cut off the hammer loop attached to the pants. They make shorts also and I will be getting some as spring approaches.

I have/used Mitch Rosen's No.18 pocket holster for my S&W 38/49 and the holster works well with 'some' of my work/cargo pants.

Thanks for all the "Pocket Holster Smith's" web sites.
