1st Kimber - Need IDPA Holster.

I just bought a Kimber Eclipse and it's a lovely gun. I'd like to use it to shoot IDPA, and would love to find a good OWB holster for it that won't scratch the finish. On that note, I have two questions:

    1. Which holster material should I get to minimize finish abuse? (kydex, leather etc)

    2. If Kydex is ok, then I'm thinking of either Comp-Tac or BlackHawk Serpa. Opinions?

    Thanks guys,

I carry my Kimber Pro Raptor in a pancake made by John W. O'Rourke. His web site is J.W. O'Rourke Leather Products -- Holsters, belts. Last time I checked his web site, he was not charging any shipping on his pancake holsters.

Personally I don't think the phrase "clearing kydex" will ever catch on! Ok, I crack myyself up. Seriously, I would be happy to assist you with a holster which would serve IDPA and concealed carry daily.

Here are some Kimber holster photos from another thread...

Let me know if I can be of assistance

Kydex will definetly take the finish off quicker than leather but is much smoother and faster for comp.I have used a Baer 1911 in a blade tech IWB for years in comp and carry and the blueing is about gone, but hey it's a tool and wear builds character

I use the Blackhawk CQC (non-retention version) for IDPA and I think it is great. Since a number of people around here use the Blackhawk as their OWB holster for various firearms, I think it's a very good choice. One of the nice things about the CQC (and, I think, all Blackhawk holsters) is that you get both belt-slide and paddle backings. I use the paddle with no problems whatsoever.

If you are concerned about the finish on the gun, Safariland (among others) makes felt/suede lined kydex...
