Belt question

I have a question mainly for the leather craftsmen, but any in put is welcome. I have not worn a leather belt since high school, joined the army and have worn cloth with the slot and knurlled retaining since. Is there a way to take a measurement using my current belt, say making a mark with a Sharpie, and be sure that one of ya'lls belts will fit properly? Also is it possiable to order the belt with say 10 holes to allow for the seasonal expansion and contraction of my pants?

Extra holes: when I was loosing weight I went to my shoe repair shop. They punched extra holes for free.

Who ever you are going to buy from use their directions for measuring. Some of us include the buckle and some do not when measuring. Here is a link that may help. Rock Steady Belts

The Beltman has great prices and does an excellent job making quality belts. Check out his website: Gun Belts by The Belt Man

As indicated above he has how to measure for a belt instructions. I currently have 2 belts made by him, which I use exclusively now... no more cheap Walmart/K-Mart/Sears or any other cheap belts for me anymore.

I'm sure he can make custom belts since he already does 7 holes at 3/4", or 5 holes at 1".

If you still prefer cloth, I'd suggest a Wilderness Instructors 5 stitch belt in 1 1/2" width. Otherwise, see above recommendations.

I went with the Beltman's 1.5" bull hide and black buckle with 7 holes. I also ordered an MTAC to keep it company, I can't wait to introduce them to my P-01! When they all meet I will post pics and an avitar at last. Now to figure out to convince the wife that a Tucker combo is needed for family gatherings/shooting at father-in-law's property.

I went to an Amish community not far from here and found the local harness shop. These guys make everything from scratch. I took off my store bought belt and give it to the harness maker and asked can you make a good heavy belt this size? He says sure, gets out a roll of black leather. It was smooth on one side and rough on the other. Took out a tool and sliced off a 1 1/2" strip and proceded to make it in about ten minutes. He was thinning it down a bit but I asked him to leave it thick, it's 3/16"thick leather with a nice brass roller buckle. It has snaps so you can change buckle if you want, I like the brass though. Cost was $10 around ten or twelve years ago. I had it made for a work belt but it sure is a nice gun belt. It will not roll over even with my belly. If you live near any Amish I would check it out.
