    Glock carry without holster

I was rather dismayed today to see one of my fellow firearms instructors stick his Glock 27 into his waistband in an appendix carry style without a holster. We had a rather spirited debate about why I believe that to be essentially unsafe. His point: He's been safely carrying his gun that way for 20 years and without pulling the trigger there will be no AD. My point: Carrying a gun, especially a Glock, without covering the trigger is foolhardy and not even remotely safe. Any opinions?

To each there own, if it works for him great, but i would never do that. I want my trigger protected all the time, I don't want to worry about it falling down my pants, and I don't want the negative sterotype of the gangsta style carry.
I believe in gun control...... Thats why I use TWO hands.

He's an instructor? It may be time for an anonymous tip upstairs. You have the duty to maintain safety and to demonstrate it daily.

There are two types of motorcycle riders, those who have gone down, and those who are going to go down...

I think carrying a gun without a holster is pretty much the same thing. A ND or AD waiting to happen.
There are two sides to every issue: one side is right and the other is wrong, but the middle is always evil.

In my opinion, a Glock should either be carried in a holster that covers the triggerguard, a hard case, chamber empty, or with a Saf-T-Blok or some other auxiliary safety device.

To my way of thinking, a holster is part of the safety system of a chamber-loaded Glock.

So was the chamber loaded? Interesting.

It is a fact that many who carry a Glock sans a holster later sing in the Vienna Boys Choir Your fellow firearms instructors are courting disaster. Regards, Richard

I'm with you! See how he is doing after 25 years. But no matter if he gets by, it is a very unwise method of carrying a Glock.

    Sounds loko to me.

If he didn't, why wouldn't an instructor have a round in the chamber? What's the point?

I wouldn't carry any gun without a holster...much less a block. An AD is only one of many reasons...though it is the most important.

IMO, he is going to end up with one of his "trained" students getting themselves shot or, worse, getting someone else shot.

"But ... my instructor told me it would be safe!!" Yeah, well. He's been lucky.

I'd say that it's not a question of if, but when. At some point, that trigger's likely to hang up on something as it's being jammed into the pants. Voila, no more illusions. About the risk, or about the concept of an ND being anything other than negligent.

I agree on the necessity for a holster. If it's loaded, not a question of IF, but WHEN. And it won't be pretty.
