Summer special, what is so special?
This holster comes up from time to time a long with the versa max II holster. What makes is so sought after and talked about? I currently have a milt sparks leather holster and its better then the M-tac I have so I figured I would ask about the summer special.

It's an old Bruce Nelson design. Some people love them while others (like me), find the offset loop designs much more comfortable. The only way to know for sure is to try each design and see which suits you best.

It's probably the most sold style of IWB in history. Virtually everyone makes a similar version. Seems like folks love them or hate them. I found them a little unstable, even though I used them for years. When the VM2 and Brommeland's MaxCon V came out, I found I loved the wide footprint, and the thinner profile since the loops weren't directly over the gun. You can get a Sparks SS2 from Brownell and give it a try for not much cash and no wait. You can always sell a Sparks for little loss, and sometimes a profit.

I love my Galco Summer Comfort for my G19, although I had one for a Taurus PT111 that was not as stable as the G19 one. I have not tried one of the offst loop ones yet but plan to.
Glock 19/FEG/FM HiPowers/Keltec P32 for me. When I can't use my 870,N98 or Marlin .30-30 of course...

I don't care for them. I prefer offset loop designs and I also LOVE my Mtac.

Carry a G19 in a Sparks SS. I find it very comfortable.

The SS and variants place the loops over the slide and make it too bulky for me. The only thing that makes a 1911 carryable is it's incredibly thin profile. Compromising this takes it in the wrong direction for me. That, and the fact that the weight isn't distributed over a large enough area is problematic.

Is this also due to the re-enforced mouth on the holster? I have started to question wether this or the VM2 is a better holster. I currently have a watch 6 dual talon and a MTAC. I enjoy the watch 6 more as it is a much smaller holster then the MTAC.

The VM2 is far superior for my body shape and size. I like the profile, and the fore/aft loops are very secure. There is no wobble. Some are afraid of interfering with belt loops. You only have to shift 1/2" either way if there is a conflict. That said, there are probably more SS and SS2's out there than anything else.
