I started training for IPSC matches. I had an instructor go over some of the basics I would need for my first match. He is a fanatic and has all the expensive paraphernalia necessary for open competition. I don't want to go there yet, but what I discovered is that the gear I have for defensive handgun classes will not work well for IPSC matches.
What I used was a Sidearmor holster Sidearmor: Kydex® Holsters, Shotgun Equipment, Rifle Equipment and firearms accessories similar to this one but without the cutout and some Blackhawk mag carriers. I don't need to get as fanatically with it as my instructor does as I am in this more for the fun and practice than winning any competitions.
What would by your recommendations for a good holster and mag carriers for IPSC? I would be in a production gun category shooting my Glock 23 (for now).
Preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse or Rapture....whichever comes first.
Any holster which attaches to the belt and does not have an extreme cant will do you good. Almost everyone uses kydex though some use leather when shooting Production.
I bought a kydex Dan Hillsman 'Range Master' that's done me well for IPSC. Another kydex maker called BearClaw has a holster called the 'Standard Option' would also serve you well for production and Limited, or the 'Race 1' that should be great for Limited 10 or Limited. If you decide to shoot Open Class then you need to get a CR Speed competition holster. Check out the Brian Enos' forums.
For Limited everyone has four 'speed carriers' carried on the belt in front - as do I (CR Speed's), but for Production any mag carrier will do.
