    Thoughts on Pocket Carry

Ok...I got my hands on a Ruger LCP about a month ago. I bought a cheap Uncle Mikes to throw it in until I came across something better. Last week I bought a Galco pocket holster. I was looking to use this gun as an "anytime" gun that I could just throw in the pocket when I didn't feel like strapping on the G27.

Carrying the LCP in my pocket in the Galco pocket holster is not anything near what I expected it to be. I carry it in my strongside front pants pocket. It looks and feels like I'm carrying a copy of the Oxford English dictionary in my pocket. It feels better in my back pocket but that that doesn't make much sense as it's tough to get to. Am I missing something here????? I can conceal my Glock 27 IWB in a Galco USA much better than I can the tiny underpowered Ruger LCP. Why did I waste my money on the LCP and a $40 pocket holster if I can conceal my G27 better (I guess this is a question I should be asking myself)???

Does anyone else feel their "cover" is compromised when carrying in a pocket with an LCP, a Kel-Tec, Seecamp, etc.???

I may be selling an LCP soon...........the frustration continues.

You should try to carry the LCP in the front pants pockets of a pair of women's jeans!!

For reason's I fully do NOT understand, pocket holsters are thick. The whole point of the LCP is thin, then the pocket holster adds double the thickness, and now I look like I'm suffering from some sort of anatomical deformity.

I'm going to make a bra holster for mine.

You're right about pocket holsters being thick. The Uncle Mike's is better than the Galco in all respects except the gun doesn't stay in one place...it sort of wanders about in the pocket (I cut the clip off as I don't intend to carry IWB...that's what my Glock is for).

I'm not a small guy either...6'3" 220 lbs. and I still get the "anatomical deformity" feeling.

I carry a S&W 642 snub nose all day in perfect comfort in a Mika Pocket holster. I wear shorts and T shirt most days here in Florida. No printing and holster stays in the pocket on the draw.

How does the "Uncle Mikes" conceal for you? If you wear tighter jeans anything will be hard to hide. In jeans (relaxed fit) I use a UM size 1 for my P3AT, in dockers or cargo pants I use leather. Look into kydex, thin and light I know Stockdesigns
Makes a popular one for the KT line, maybe he'll make them for LCP.
One more option is a P3AT clip, looks like a knife clip. It most likely work on the Ruger.

Good luck and don't quit just yet.

The DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holster has good reviews by LCP owners. One place to get it is http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=115445

    No one is listening?

Go to Fist holsters thru the "Related Links" above...
Search out the Fist kydex pocket holster. It is molded in such a flat, thin way that it hugs the thigh, absolutely no printing, stays upright in the pocket...and the 'designed' thumb push guarantees that the holster stays put when drawing the gun...also allows EASY reholstering...it worksit works

I recently started carrying a 642 in a Galco pocket holster. The holster is ambi, and it's horsehide, so it's stiff as a board and doesn't have a built-in curve to conform to your leg.

I had mine all of an hour before I was soaking it in hot water and doing some molding of my own. I boned the backside better to the gun, and I formed a curve so everything would blend in better in the pocket. Left the front side unmolded.

Works out great in the Carhartt shorts I'm generally wearing when I'm not at work.

x2 here in Texas. While the 642 certainly lags in the "capacity wars", I feel it it a perfect pocket gun in the perfect pocket holster (Mika)(especially when stuffed with the Gold Dot +p short barrel rounds and a couple of speed strip reloads). I had a Desantis Nemesis holster that I liked, but the Mika really reduces the printing.

Keep in mind that method of carry is a system, no matter how you do it. Your gun, holster, position of carry and clothing needs to match your body shape, how you move while carrying.

If the pants/pockets/belt are wrong, the body shape doesn't support carrying at that exact position, or how you move throughout the day while carrying, then that mode of carry isn't going to work well. You need to change one or more of those factors, to optimize any system. Doesn't matter whether you're speaking of IWB, OWB or pocket carry.

I would bet your pants are to tight. IMO your clothes should revolve around your gun. I have dress pants that fit good but won't allow me to use my smart carry, so when buying new pants I got a slightly bigger size that will allow the use of my smart carry. I carry a Glock 19 and Keltec P3AT. The same pants also allows me to carry the kel-tec in the front right pocket in a galco pocket holster. Some of my jeans won't allow smart carry, so buying new ones slightly bigger allows it. I carry my P3AT in my back pocket alot so I have pants where the back pocket is deep enough. Buy clothes with gun carry in mind, how tight are they, deep pockets, loose shirts, those are just a few things too consider. Most of my clothes allows at least pocket carry and IWB, the newer clothes I buy now also allows for smart carry.

Cargo pants/shorts & SW 442 works well for me. I favor the Mikas pocket holster over the Desantis Nemesis. A friend has a PCS holster that works VERY well. It is flat on the front to avoid printing.

I carry an R9S in a Galco pocket holster with no problems at all. Yes, it takes some getting used to but no one has ever made me. It's more comfortable in some pants than others, and the downside is giving up a pocket when you have keys, a cell phone and a spare mag to carry.

I find I use this set up a lot more often than my G36 IWB. Much more comfortable, much easier to conceal.
