I would prefer open top for CC, but I am required by my dept. to have some sort of active retention on off-duty holsters, so I have to have thumbbreaks or other retention(SERPA, Carrylok, etc) on my off-duty holsters.
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, "I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along." . . . You must do the thing you think you cannot do. Eleanor Roosevelt

I use a snap retention on a leather shaped holsters.
Reasons; thumb releases it as I move my hand down to grab the gun and to me doesn't slow down getting a gun out at all, keeps it in place so it doesn't drop out accidentally, makes it harder for someone if they decide to try to grab my gun, and if I'm riding my motorcycle it isn't going anywhere but where I do.

I run both and practically speaking, from true concealment, find very little difference, time wise to first shot, between them.

I always conceal so i dont have straps, im thinking about getting a holster for open carry and that one would have a strap though.
