Off-duty I usually carry my G27 with one spare 23 mag. On-duty it is the 23 with two spare mags on the belt and two 22 mags in the bag.

When I used to carry my G36 I would carry two spare mags because of their low capacity.

It is better to have your gun and not need it, than to need it and not have it!

I always carry at least one extra magazine. Always with out exception.

What happens if the mag in the gun fails? One of the most common failures on a modern semi-auto hand gun is the magazine. Your mag fails and ou don't carry a reload? You now are defending yourself with a very small blunt object.

Always carry a spare magazine. I think anyone that doesn't carry a spare is crazy.

I sometimes carry a back-up mag, but almost always carry a BUG (which has a back-up mag with it). So when I carry a spare mag I've effectively got 3 spare mags, with one of them encased in a pistol...

No spare mags at all for me.
With an absolute minimum of 5 rounds in a revolver or 7 in a semiauto, I don't carry any pistol that I haven't tested enough to bet my life on.
If I ever feel like getting into a "gunfight" or "shootout, I'll bring an AR-15 and a bandolier worthy of a soldier.

But for civilian defensive carry, 1 to 3 rounds is all I'd ever need to extricate myself from the area. If that's not enough, then I simply wasn't paying attention of my surroundings.
In that case, I'd gladly surrender my life and let my family claim my Darwin Award.

No, if and when I felt I needed more ammo, it would be in a BUG.

I always carry a spare with my Kimber RCP and have a Sparks six pack in my car loaded with eight round magazines.
I hope I can get to my car in an emergency..

"Do you carry an extra magazine?" Absolutely!

    Put me down for "always".

I've never understood the concept of going to the trouble of carrying a firearm but not wanting to "bother" with a reload.

Most common answer: "If I can't get it done with 6/10/16 rounds, I probably can't get it done period.".

My response: Why bother with a spare tire in your truck or car? If you can't get it done with 4 tires, you probably can't get it done period!

A magazine is the most likely part of your semiauto to fail. You may have 15 rounds loaded in the Glock mag, but if the spring or feedlips fail, they are not going to do you any good. You will NEED that spare mag.

    Just my humble opinion,

I always carry an extra magazine when I'm carrying one of my pistols and a speed loader when I carry my revolver. I even carry a spare magazine for my BUG when I carry it along with my primary. I'm a firm believer in Murphy's law. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Plus with a good magazine holder carrying a spare is no big deal. Then again I also carry a good flashlight with me too, just in case. But that's a whole nother debate.

I wasn't sure how to vote, as I always carry at least one extra magazine, depending on the gun, I may carry two magazines.

I also carry and extra gun or two, with reloads.

I was curious about whether I would be carrying an extra mag or not, but after reading this post, I think I will. I wasn't concerned about the number of bullets, but the thought of my mag failing is enough. If I'll go to the trouble of carrying a gun (with all the other EDC stuff), no reason I can't carry a mag. Besides, maybe I can find a good mag/flashlight holder and get my light out of my pocket!
