    Kydex & Cowboy Boots

I actually did a search on this before I asked and found nutt'n

I wear Cowboy boots 99% of the time, Jeans, Business Suit, Casual Slacks, does not matter.
Has anyone ever had a Kydex holster frame mounted to a boot to carry a BUG?
I'd be interested to hear thoughts on this.

I don't run, jump, or climb for a living.
Mostly at a desk, conference room table, vehicle, or walking a construction site 10 hours a day.

Wear loose Jeans 70%, Khakis 29% of the time.

My primary mode is inside my boot in a DeSantis Nemesis that I have modified to provide padding for my ankle bone. I honestly don't think kydex would be comfortable inside a cowboy boot upper.

I wear cowboy boots quite often myself and I would think access to your gun would be slow, having to hoist your pant leg etc. Might even be slower than using an ankle holster.

I would not want to mount it on the "inside" of the boot, but definetly on the outside of the upper on the left boot.
Mounted inward yes, but outside of the boot.

Having to hoist the pant leg is part of the draw procedure for ankle carry. Even with an ankle holster the weapon sits several inchs higher than the ankle pivot.

It could work, however I found my BUG that was ankle carried got dirty real quick. a solid mounting platform would be needed to back the holster for stability ( either an insert or stiff leather from the boot in question).

Yes, it can be done. I made one.It is for a Keltec PF-9. The clip is molded into the holster and clips on the top of the boot. The Keltec isnt the smallest gun in the world, but it is the smallest caliber I will carry.

About the only time I wear it is at church and even when I cross my leg you cant tell that its there. It does move a bit though.

I have considered putting rivets in it to keep it secure.

To clarify, it is mounted inside the boot.

Have someone make a half shell like a Cross Breed type holster then use Chicago screws to hold it in place..If I was to do this project I would use some .63 Kydex on the inside of the boot for support. It would have to be molded to the curve of the boot and made over sized , but it would help hold things in the right place..Lastly I think a thumb strap would help to make sure it didn't come loose....

For this to work one would have to put holes in a pair of nice boots. For me I couldn't do it..

    Good luck..

I would imagine the inner kydex piece would rub on the users leg too. A thumb strap would be a good idea.

Mine aint bad Rocky. The kydex has enough grip on the gun that the strap really isnt needed. I can run and jump and not have to worry about it. Of course,if it were riveted to the boot it would be even better and less worry.

I'm paranoid that I would see the gun skipping across the ground if it didn't have a thumb strap. I'm not really crazy about ankle carry , even for a BUG , but that's just me.

Instead of putting holes in the boot for Chicago screws, maybe Velcro? Glue some inside the boot, and some on the backside of a Kydex (or leather) holster?

    I think it would work.
