OK i just measured my current belt (crappy from JC Penny) and it's like 1 3/8. I'm looking carefully at my jeans loops (wrangler) and it looks like it would be a REALLY tight fit to get a 1.5" belt in them- esp. with the extra thickness. This must just be Wrangler though cause I hear everybody saying 1.5" is no problem....

Nah. I've got several pair of Wrangler jeans, and wear a 1.5 inch gun belt (Wilderness Instructor Belt) for carry all the time. No trouble, and when I finally get a decent leather belt (probably the Beltman, just waiting to convince myself whether or not I'm going on "that diet" I've been threatening ), they still have room for a little more. No worries, 1.5 is pretty much the standard.

    I disagree...

Perhaps with off the shelf holsters, but custom hosters always give one the options to 'pick' the size of the belt holes.
Moral of the story...think about the measurements.
    - You never need a gun until you need one very badly.

    - Running is for people who don't have ammo.

I wear Wrangler jeans everyday with a 1.75 inch belt. It's all in your mind.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

1.5 is my choice. Fits my Levis, Cartharts and Draggin jeans perfectly.

1.5" belt work okay with a 1.75" loops?

Does a 1.5" belt work okay with an IWB holster with 1.75" loops or will it shift too much and am better off finding an exact match?

Always best to have a proper fit. Many holsters offer interchangeable loops or clips so you can match them to the belt width you are using.

I got one of each just to cover all bases. Of course they are local made from a leather shop and not the highest quality gun belts. I'm a jeans and t-shirt guy....the 1 1/2" belt pushes things to the limit, but it's more robust and fits my holsters better. I've probably worn the 1 1/4" five or six times in the past year.
