1.5" Beltman Bullhide - internal stiffener?

I'm debating whether or not I should get the internal stiffener on a 1.5" bullhide belt. I carry a 229, normally low to medium ride height. Are there really any drawbacks to adding the stiffener?

My Beltman has the internal stiffener and it works great! No drawbacks that I can tell.

Thanks! I didn't think there were, but wanted to be sure before I submit my order. I'd get horsehide without the stiffener, but my daughter would never forgive me for wearing a horse.

I have both a 1 1/2" and a 1 1/4" bullhide, neither with internal stiffeners and can't imagine needing any additional stiffening.

A quick call to Jim to talk about it might put your mind at ease though. He won't steer you wrong.

With double thick belts, bordering on 1/4 inch thick, there's no need for anything inside it. It's plenty stiff by itself.

No stiffner needed. The downside of adding a stiffner - and this is moreso if you're a "widebody" - is that the belt can't contour to your body as it wears-in. Look at your leather belts that you have worn for a while - if you lay it out flat, it describes an arc. If there were a plastic stiffner in the belt, it couldn't do that and it would be uncomfortable to wear under some conditions. Jim's bullhide belts are plenty stiff enough as is.

    Adios,

I don't think it needs it, but if you want it in it, then go for it.

I've got both a horse and bull...go with bull, they are just as good and a bit cheaper. No stiffiner.

I recommend the internal stiffner. I have one and it's my favorite belt.

It took a little while to "break in" but it turned out to be one of my better purchases.

If you like it, go for it. Personally I have found that I don't need the stiffener as i like the belt to conform to my body as I wear it.

    BUMP

I'd like to see more people comment on this. Trying to decide what to buy.

CornstalkCop, no difference in stability between bullhide and horsehide? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but Beltman's horsehide comes as bullhide on the inside and horsehide on the outside, right?

I have two belts from Beltman both have internal stiffners they make carrying much more comfortable.

I just got a bullhide belt this week and you definitely don't need a stiffener, you can hardly put it on as is, it's so stiff.

i placed an order last month for the 1.5" bull and included a stiffner. people who don't have the stiffner say they like they're belt and ones with the stiffner also say they like it. seems people like what they have regardless of which one.

Their bullhide is very stiff. I did not get the stiffner because it would make it thicker - and might not fit some loops. I think the stiffner would be in order on some of the exotics.
