Going beltless carry with a Kahr PM9

Ok, I was in a rush with that last holster attempt and didn't fully commit to the process. I tried to wear it for an hour yesterday and it was pretty terrible. So I went ahead and started a holster from scratch.

Here's what I came up with. It's a scabbard design held together using one larger rivet and using two grip clips as attachment points onto the waistband. It's molded so that the gun is locked in if tried to draw straight up. To draw smoothly the gun must be pulled out to an angle instead of straight up. Here it is.

Just for fun I wore it for over 3 hours to dinner along with my S&W 469 both up front at centerline carry. I was surprised it was pretty comfortable even though I'm not used to carrying at the 11:00-11:30 position.

I know it looks funny, but it worked with a sweater over it. During most of the year I don't usually go about without a belt on so I don't intend on using this holster all that often. It is the best option I have for my Kahr when belt-less so I'm glad I have it in my holster stable.

Here's a short video showing it in action:

    "Beltless"?

    You're wearing a belt, so I don't get it.

Sorry if there was any confusion. Beltless means I can wear the holster without a belt since it clips onto the pants. Yes, in that picture I am wearing a belt, but the point is the holster can be used without one.

Looks good. I found for me IWB with appendix carry is too uncomfortable sitting. However a high ride belt slot holster works well.
Those clips should work great for beltless carry , especially if you are wearing shorts that do not take a belt.

Very nice. Where did you find your clips? By the way your welcome for the idea.

I found the clips at seattlefabrics.com in the misc section of hardware. Miscellaneous Hardware

    They were $1.20 per clip.

That is brilliant. It solves a problem I posted about a few weeks ago regarding a holster for my PM9 that I could wear with beltless jeans or sweats. I think there is a market for that design if you wanted to go commercial with it

Well, the clips will grab the pants, sure. But the point of a belt is to hold the gun in place despite vigorous movement, changing waistline, etc. I'd be willing to bet that beltless <> belted, in terms of effectiveness. Caution, as there are good reasons folks wear belts to hold waist-mounted firearms.

Actually some of us don't need belts to hold our weapons. I wear suspenders and came up with this idea a few weeks ago. I had been wearing a M-TAC holster without a belt with no problems except I had to thumb the holster so it would not come out on the draw. With this design the clips hold onto the pants so the holster doesn't come out with the weapon. I do wear a belt sometimes know with my M-TAC but I don't always have to. Remember everyone is different.

You are correct that everyone is different and beltless carry might work well for you. Having said that, I have seen several people's cell phone clip come loose while they were working when just having the phone clipped to jeans with no belt. Since cell phones are much lighter than most firearms, it would be a concern to me.

These clips are much different than the clips used on cell phones. they are similar to the tarp clips used to tie down tarps without punching a hole. It's not a spring that keeps them clipped like those cell phone clips.

The clips used here are used for suspenders as well. I have never had on of these come off while wearing them as suspenders.
