    OWB concerns

I carry an XD40 Service in a CBST.

Two issues I hope you guys can help me with.

    1. When I place the XD in the admittedly junky OWB plastic holster that came with it, the grip sits probably 3 inches off my love handle area. I could never CC with that holster. Now, I know that it is junk, but does a good quality leather OWB holster really pull it in a considerable amount? I am taking a class pretty soon and an OWB holster is required. If the nice ones really work that well, I will buy one for both the class and for carry after the class. If they don't, I will just use the free cheapo I already have.

    2. Assuming the above is a resounding yes from all parties, is there even a snowball's chance in Hades of me finding a good quality OWB that can be to my door in the next 8 days?

Yes, they do pull the grip in considerably more. So do well designed kydex holsters. You shouldn't have to buy two, though. A good leather or kydex holster will last you through a bunch of classes and years of everyday carry. If you think your only going to buy one holster for your XD, think again. For good holsters, fast, try Lightning Arms Sports

I worded it funny... I meant I would buy one holster for use in the class as well as continued use after the class... not one for each. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the response

I've been happy with the Galco M7X Matrix OWB models. I have them for both single and double-stack firearms, and they stay snug with a good belt.

( It looks like they make them for your firearm, too: Galco holsters; Holsters; Gun holster, pistol holsters, western holsters, shoulder holsters, leather holster and Glock holsters )

    OpticsPlanet.com usually has quick turnaround.

In the lower cost genre, check Don Hume's H721OT. Works well with my Taurus PT-145 and my Thunder380 Bersa.

Another low cost option for your perusal. I use this for my 1911A.

The M7X is an excellent holster for the money, and I carry my XD in one at times. Also, I have a Galco Side Snap Scabbard which I carry my G36 in sometimes, and that is an excellent holster.

+1 for the Galco M7X. They are inexpensive, available quickly and very concealable. Optics Planet usually has them in stock and ships fast.

    Love Handle Holsters

Yes, a properly designed holster coupled with a good gun belt will pull your firearm in close.

If you suffer with the fairly common love handle dilemma then you will need to cinch your belt in a bit tighter than normal.

A good quality leather OWB pancake holster is probably your best bet.

The holster leather also needs to be quite stiff so that your holster will not collapse in on itself after you draw.
Make sure that you stress that fact when you order a custom rig.

You should also request some degree of "forward cant" to your carry rig which will angle the gun butt up a bit and then it will be far less likely to print.

You'll quickly get used to drawing and reholstering your firearm in that angled position.

Paypal and I had a small disagreement, but Rocky stuck with me and we made it through. Several hours later a new Black Ops is on its way to my house.

Thanks for all your responses! Review and pics coming tomorrow!
