    M&P 9C holster ideas.

Ive been around for a while, and have lurked and read plenty of posts, but I cant seem to decide on a holster for my new carry gun, a S&W M&P 9C (see my weak attempt at gratuitous gun porn below)

Heres the deal. Im 6ft 300lbs - losing weight as time goes by, ive already lost 20 lbs so far, since quitting smoking and almost all sugar loaded foods last April. I have a spare tire. The rest of me is pretty well proportionate. This means I have overhang on the beltline. It starts around 2, then fades out around 4:30. the bulk of it hangs out over 4:45. Right now I carrying in a cheapo Passport high riding pancake style holster that I wear inside the belt and outside the pants, on the right side.

I finally have a bit to spend on a decent holster. I just cant decide which type. I would like an MTAC, or crossbreed, but im concerned about my extra lobe-age interfering with the grip area, and my ability to quickly reach the grip over the overhang. Im also used to carrying it up higher on the outside like I have been. Ive practiced my draw and im used to it that way(I'm not adverse to changing, its just something to consider). I have also been considering something like a combo holster like a K&D Defender, or a Bluegrass Mason Dixon

Any suggestions from folks would certainly be appreciated.

I have a couple options that I highly recommend.

For OWB, I'd recommend a UBG Regulator. I have for an M&P9c. It holds the gun tight to your side and makes concealment a breeze. The fit and finish of this holster is superb.

For IWB, I'd recommend a HBE COM III (if you like leather loops) or DC Special (if you like Metal Clips). I currently have a COM III for my J Frames and am trying to decide between the two mentioned above for my M&P as well. The HBE is up there with the best holster makers in the world. For IWB, you can't go wrong with his leather.

I've attached a couple pictures of these two holsters below to see if any intrigues you.

I use a Crossbreed Supertuck and love it. But I have to say, I just took a look at UBG, and they look pretty nice and reasonably priced. I might get my mag holder from them actually.

    Crossbreed Supertuck

I have the M&P9c as well and use the Crossbreed Supertuck. I am also sporting a spare tire and belly, 5'9" 245. I thought this would be a major issue with carrying in the waistband but it wasn't near as bad as i thought. The Crossbreed at around 4-430 works great for me. I carry most of my weight from 3 on. However when i moved the crossbreed back to 4-430 it was a dream, very comfortable and easy to draw. I was leery to go with IWB with my size and considered SOB or other options, but i'm glad I went ahead and gave the supertuck a try. hope that helps...

Awesome pics, thanks. I like the UBGand its on my short list. I would like to stay away from buying two different holsters right now though, for economic reasons. I suppose thats why the combo holster idea seems so appealing.

Have you ever carried any other way? I mean, as in OWB in a belt holster, and if so, how was the adjustment period.

I know it, and the MTAC are superb holsters. Im just on the fence I guess on it sitting lower, and comfort.

I told the guys at my local gunshop the day I bought the M&P "You guys really need a holster fitting room, so I can try these out"

Honestly No, I got the Supertuck when i got the M&P9c and got used to it. Truthfully when i first got the holster i was trying to wear it at 3 o'clock and it was really digging into my love handle. Then I moved it a full belt loop section back, and it was so much more comfortable. I should say that all my pants are already over an inch big so i had room(hate tight jeans etc). I'm sure OWB is a ton more comfortable but wearing my supertuck IWB at 4-430 is very comfortable for me. For me only IWB was going to conceal enough for me, luckily it worked out.

I would suggest that you contact Kevin at K&D Holsters. Here is a link to their website.
K&D Holsters | Custom Gun Leather and Shooting Accessories
I just spoke with Kevin earlier today and he pointed out one of their fairly new holster designs. It is here.

Look at the Thunderbird Defender at the top of the page. It is an extremely versatile holster that can be worn IWB AND OWB. I have a Cochise Defender that Kevin made me for my M&P .40c and it is a great holster. Quality second to none. It is worth every cent and minute of wait time!
I am including a couple pics of my holster. If he had offered the Thunderbird Defender when I got mine I would have gone that way for the veratality.

Just a couple questions from another M&P9c carrier...

The UBG looks a bit shorter than the K&D, can you guys give some general dimensions for both?

Also, are there any other holster makers that make the IWB/OWB combo holsters?

Sorry - I don't have as much time to research as I used to...

I've never had a leather holster that creaks, squeaks, or otherwise. On the other hand, I had an MTAC that squeaked all the time. Leather is the way to go!

I don't know about the K&D, but the UBG, measured from the center of the holster is 4.25" from top to bottom.

You would not be sorry Saint77. I have 2 holsters from K&D and love them both. Neither of them creak.
