    Waist holsters in the car

I just recently got my CHP and have been trying various IWB and OWB holsters with my daily routine. I was wondering if any of you who use a waist holster un-holster while in the car? I find that in most positions the gun or holster digs into my side or back while I'm driving. Being a lefty it's not real easy to access my gun while driving if it's on my waist anyway. Looking for opinions here...

I hear what your saying. I use a IWB and sometimes it digs a little. What I have been doing to prevent so much digging is loosen my belt a notch or two. It seems to help. Before you get out of the vehicle, just tighten your belt back up.

I don't unholster my gun. I mostly carry OWB. When in the car I tuck my shirt behind my gun.

I only un-holster during long trips. I carry cross-draw 100%, so for day to day carry it doesn't bother me. Occaisionally I'll slide it back to 9 oclock so that the barrel pivots around my hip bone if I have any discomfort while seated.

I use a Fist IWB/SOB with my firearm at about 5:00-5:30. I have no problem leaning forward and pulling the weapon. If I become concerned about an area I am in, I simply draw and place the weapon either between the seat and console or under my thigh. At times I may bring a second firearm for the seat/console position.
Either way, the position of my firearm at 5:00 is very comfortable.

Stay armed...find that comfort niche...stay safe!

It’s really an issue you’ll have to adapt to. I know some folks actually have a holster attached to the side of the center console or elsewhere while driving. I believe there is some photos somewhere, showing various configurations. Perhaps this is something to consider.

That's sort of what I'm doing. I have a spare DeSantis pocket holster in the pocket of my car door.

I use a shoulder holster while driving any distance, easy access for me.

I have tried many holsters and to me, the Galco Miami Classic is the best I have ever owned. (Was originally the Jackass rig)

3:30-4:00, with an FBI cant IWB, no problems driving for me. For a lefty that would 8:00-8:30, (I think)

I have a crossbreed supertuck, and I don't even notice I'm wearing my Glock 21. Haven't travelled long distance yet, but I have a 3/4 bench seat in the truck, so I'll just stuff it between the driver seat and the bench. Tight squeeze, so it won't fall through.

I drive about 36,000 miles a year as a salesman and I carry a large frame each and everyday either a 1911, Glock 21, or a Sig 245 IWB in a Comp-tac Minataur all are very comfortable.
