XD45 Compact holsters fit the XD45 Service (Same gun, just a shorter grip).

    Ask me how I know...

    Ken,

Does it ride high enough to cover an Ultra Carry under a loose fitting T shirt?

The Fist #12 rides high enough to conceal one of my 4" N-frame S&W's under a loose t-shirt....I do so daily.

    I'd give a hard look at K & D's Eagle Defender

    Which Galco, and which FIST?

A Galco Avenger, to name one model, is a shameless copy of the Bruce Nelson Professional. Milt Sparks' BN55 pays tribute to the late, great Bruce Nelson with the name of the rig. Other makers make similar rigs, including Josh Bulman, who made my FDS, which is my usual concealment rig for a P229.

I am not being negative about Galco. I have an Avenger that I used from the mid-90's to 2002, to carry BHPs and 1911s. In the gunleather industry, basic holster types are not patented or copyrighted; everyone copies everyone else. It is the craftsmanship which really matters. Of course, certain holster features, such as retention devices, may indeed be patented, but they have to be really really unique and innovative to be different from what has been made before.

Galco didn't invent the pancake-style rig, either, but they make excellent interpretations of the concept made popular by Roy Baker.

Ah, OK, FIST #12. That is not a Galco copy, in that Galco did not originate that way of making holsters. That is a pancake holster. Roy Baker made them popular.

The Galco Concealable is a truly excellent pancake, perhaps the best off-the-rack pancake on the market.

Wait . . . . the XD45 Compact has a 5" slide length, well, at least the one we have at my shop does anyway. How can it be the same as the Service 4"?

Maybe I need to look again. I didn't know they made the Service model in a compact.

Compact just means it has a shorter grip, the slides and frames are interchangeable.

The four varieties of XD45's are:

    XD45 Service
    XD45 Tactical
    XD45c Service
    XD45c Tactical

When looking at holsters, the slide is the consideration. Hopefully that helps.

The reason you see mostly 5" compacts right now is that the demand for them is low.

He updates his website pretty frequently. Once he starts on the week you ordered your holster in, you are about a week and a half out.

He's got it on his main page, scroll down to the right. Looks like he's working on a 16 or 17 week backlog based on Jan1-7 orders being made now.

Don Hume or Galco both make good OWB holsters.
