    Uncle Mike's PDA Holster Disappointment

I bought an Uncle Mike's PDA Holster as the dimensions advertised were perfect for my Colt Mustang. That is, they would be if accurate.

It is reported to measure 6" wide, but is actually 5.75" outside and with the .25 inset allows only 5.25 for my 5.5" gun.

The height is reported at 5" but is actually only 4" outside with 1" of that a gap above the carry space. With the .25" inset of the bottom I have 2.75" for my 3.9" gun. It might be deep enough if one could stretch the elastic .5" inside space to the 1" advertised.

Bottom line is the 6 x 5 x 1 PDA holster has only 5.25 x 2.75 x .5 usable space. It looks sturdy and is attractive, so if you have a mouse that would fit, it may be a consideration.

In the holster world, "Uncle" is a bad word.

Well they named it accurately.... Uncle Mike's Pretty Darn Awful Holster...

Sorry to hear it... it's terrible when you order something and it's not as advertised...

You got what you paid for....

Seriously, pony up some money and buy a high quality custom holster.

I hate to think or even add up, just how much money I have tied up in leather. Some holsters are for guns I no longer have, while some fall into that category of ‘seemed like a good idea at the time’ sort of thing. Of course I have a couple of those super duper, best in the west, gotta’ have it sharkskin, etc. Heck, I even have an older Galco bridal-leather range bag. It’s enough to make a grown man cry. I sometimes equate leather holsters for us gun guys; to women and their lust for handbags and shoes.

If I knew what style I would be able to use over and could try a few different brands & models, I wouldn't mind spending good money on that holster. But when starting out (my first carry holster) how do you know?

I did try my inherited IWB holster for the 1911 and no way would I wear that all the time, even if concealment were not an issue. Concealment IS an issue for OWB and ruled out. That's why I did buy the $10 PDA holster and the Uncle Mikes ankle holster (still shipping). I'm hoping the ankle unit will work well enough to know for certain if that's the style for me. If so, when this one falls apart I'll get a better one.

Don't forget about the family pet Bulldog (it's like a Uncle Mikes).

If I had to make a suggestion and sadly I don't even own the holster I have mostly a copy I made for myself. Get a supertuck. It is certainly worth the money and that style of holster has been the most comfortable IWB that I've found. There are better holsters for more money but I think for the dollar there isn't a better cheaper holster. Seems to be a common thread among other people also. Just my suggestion since I've been down the same basic road as have most people who have carried for a while. Good Luck

    Luke

EDIT: Or if your handy go ahead and make one the design is simple and the materials are fairly cheap, don't skimp on the leather weight though, go fairly heavy. Tandy likely have scrap in the right size also.

Everyone learns, sooner or later, that you get exactly what you pay for...
Sometimes it makes no difference, but with holsters, it can make all the difference in the world. Once someone tries a quality leather holster 'boned' for a particular gun...they understand the difference in quality :vs: cheap.
When it involves defending one's life, don't go cheap. OMOYMV
