    Question Crimson trace and holsters

I am looking to purchase a Crimson trace grip system for my Taurus 85 snubbie .38. Does anyone have any experience with the effect on holster choice. I use a kydex paddle or a Galco shoulder rig. I'm not worried about the Nemisis pocket, since I use a smaller one (sized for the Kel-tec .32/.380) because it works better for me.

Also, any comment about the difference between the retail $209 and the $299 versions would be welcome. I see the $299 is softer and has a on/off switch. Is it fatter? That would make a difference with my shoulder rig. The Taurus 85 I use does have soft rubber grips.

I just wonder if it would make sense to just trade in the Taurus on a S&W j frame with the dedicated CT system.

In most cases, the CT grips work find with most holsters.

Are you a NRA member or better yet an Instructor. They have discounts, ( not sure on your gun, but worth a look )

I have an Kahr with CT grips that rides in both an OWB and a molded shoulder holster, neither of which are affected by the laser nodule.

Most of the time the grips dont play into the holster. I have yet to see one that has.

One question for you, why do you want a laser to begin with?

If you're happy with your taurus, I'd keep it... The CT's are basically the same for the taurus and the smiths... i'd consider getting them from Shooters Resource. They're an authorized CT dealer and have the best prices I've seen online or anywhere else... The $209 version matches the smaller factory grips with an open backstrap and has no on/off switch. The $299 version is oversized, softer rubber, covers the backstrap and has an on/off switch... The prices at shooters resource are much lower...

I can't speak specifically for your pistol, but the CT for the Ruger LCR can effect the fit depending on the holster design. This may not be true for a larger frame revolver.
CT's on most semi-autos do not effect a right hand holster.(except the LCP or P3AT/32.

CTs can impact holster selection depending on style. I change some holsters and parts to work around CTs so it is always good to tell your holster maker about it or try the gun when pulling off the rack.

Right after Christmas, I ordered a Laredo Defender from K&D Holsters.

A few days later I received a late Christmas prsent of a CT Laser for my Glock 19.

On a whim, I contacted Keven at K&D and asked if he needed to know if my Glock had a CT grip installed, he said, yes that having a CT grip was something he needed to know.

So, at least in my case, the CT grip makes a difference.
