    1911 carry options

    Hello, new to the site.

Picked up a Colt Ghost Commander the other day and was wondering about carry options. The only reason I ask is because I am a southpaw and it has an ambidextrous safety. Was wondering if any of you lefties out there could point me to a good waistband style holster that prevents the safety from actuating due to bumping/rubbing upgainst something (outside) or me (inside). I know they probably wont move, but I don't want to run the chance.

I have seen a lot of examples on here, but I am asking some leftie 1911 carriers to give me some pointers.

    Thanks!

My Kimbers have ambi safeties. When I get my Fist holsters, with body protectors, the safety has it's indentations in the 'boned' leather.
I've never had a safety work itself off...never.

Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't worry too much about the ambi safety. I have carried a 1911 with ambi safety for years in Milt Sparks and Matt DelFatti holsters and, like retsupt99, I have never had a safety work itself off.

Well, I have 3 1911's and carry them all in a Crossbreed Supertuck. I bought it with the taller leather "sweat guard" that's on the inside (between you and the gun). I have since trimmed most of this away; spare tire got in the way!

To answer your question, I DID have one occasion where it flicked the thumb safety off safe because it hit the leather piece. Just a few minutes with a sharpie (outline) and a pair of scissors (or knife) and I've cut around the offending area. I've since had NO issues with the safety coming off. None. I LOVE my Crossbreed. Highly recommended.

Welcome to the Forum. The best holster maker for the 1911 in any method is Pure Kustom. Check it out!

    Welcome aboard vooduchikn!

I carry Commander sized 1911's with ambi-safety's. The "flab tab" on my IWB holsters keeps the safety in position. There's actually a depression where it sits in the leather.

    ALWAYS carry! - NEVER tell!
