    Recommendations for S&W 642

Just picked up my new 642 today, and I need holster/carry info and recommendations. I'm used to IWB carry w/Glocks and Kimbers, but this is a new animal to me. I want a good small belt rig, and a pocket holster info for jeans, and jacket pockets as well...This will be concealed carry only...Thanks in advance.

For pocket carry, I use a Mika holster..... but not for jeans. I IWB with jeans. I have used this: H715-M W.C. [H715-M] - $30.20 : Don Hume Leathergoods, manufactures high quality leather and nylon goods.

    or this: http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Ins...,1151,1418.htm

And actually my Crossbreed works real well...it is for my XD, but my 642 snaps right in..... though I do not carry it that way. Good luck.

Thanks, bps...I'm checking out Mika pocket holsters...trying to determine his current time frame for delivery. Looking for a good compact, high riding leather belt rig too, if there is such an animal...

I sometimes carry a 340PD(essentially the same as the 642 only in .357). My favorite is an IWB Safariland Model 18(Google image "Safariland Model 18"). It is black suede surrounding kydex. Very secure and very fast. I left home the other morning and literally thought I had forgotten to get fully dressed- I COULD NOT TELL I was carrying. I had to physically touch it with my hand. The Comp Tac IWB looks promising also.

For pocket carry, I highly recommend the Pistol Packer Premium from Wild Bill's Concealment. Had mine for about 10 years now and it gets a lot of use... it's substantial and it's holding up well. The "Premium" part adds a snap-removable panel to make the rig appear square like a wallet in your pocket, great for those slacks that drape a little nicer than jeans or Dockers. About $50 and worth every penny.

Hey Y'all: How in the world do any of you actually pocket carry the 642? I have a 642 which I always have behind my bed at night and in my glove compartment in my car, but whenever I have tried it in my pocket I feel like I have an elephant hanging on to me. Maybe its just me and maybe its just getting used to but I wish I was one of you and found it to be comfortable.
PS: I ended up pocket carrying a 380 mouser with a FIST thumb push kydex. Also like grandfather oad kydex holster--the lighter the better on the holster.

    Hey Kelcarry,
I actually use a Blackhawk #3 for my S&W M&P 340 which is a .357 Mag. The gun is real light @ about 12 oz without ammo. This setup carries well for me in cargo shorts or dress pants. I actually forget it's there. Jeans are a no go. I'm looking for an ankle holster or a left handed OWB with a mag holder built into it for my G23. The left handed setup is made by fist. hth,

My wife has a 642 Ladysmith - nice and light. However, I have no idea how one pocket carries this little dynamo in anything other than cargo shorts. I have a Nemesis pocket holster that works OK for the pocket of a winter/leather coat, and a FIST #1 for IWB carry, but in any pants I wear, it looks like I have a boat anchor on me.

I am 6'1" 220 lbs - 36" waist. Even though I'm a big guy, unless I dress like Ronald McDonald or MC Hammer, pocket carry in pants is out.

I use Croft and Barrow shorts (they are great for IWB carry also)and straight seamed shirts. Always pressed and neat. I pocket carry, I have no choice. I am in cust. houses and yards all the time. They cannot know. No one has ever noticed and I forget it is there. IWB is to visable and harder to hide for me....sitting at someones wood table and slide back in the wood chair, lol, "KLUNK" as my XD hits the chair. Only took once...cust. gave me wierd look but did not ask. I about crapped, lol. He figured it out eventually but was a gun person, so he was cool about it.
Also, I can draw my gun twice as fast from pocket than I can IWB. I practice drawing and point shooting at 3 yards and am pretty dang good at it if I do say so myself.

I've carried the 642 in my pocket for years. I have two different pocket holsters I use depending on the shape of the pockets on whatever pants I'm wearing that day. I always buy my pants or shorts with larger pockets just for the snubbie.

The two holsters I use are the Mika Round Cut or the Desantis Nemesis (more square at the bottom).

    YMMV.

    Cheers!

I frequently pocket carry my S&W 642. My preference is a DeSantis Super Fly.

I carry in a Galco horsehide pocket holster. Definitely took some getting used to pocket carry. Once you get over the initial feeling of having a ginormous growth protruding from your leg, you eventually figure out that's that big ol' lump isn't really as big as you thought it was.

I initially started pocket carrying only in some loose Carhartt shorts I have, but I now tote regularly in my relaxed-fit Carhartt jeans just fine. The jeans aren't skin tight, but they're not MC Hammer baggy, either ("relaxed" fit jeans on my fat butt are more like regular fit on less substantial people ). Yeah, there's somewhat of a lump in my pocket, but not much more than my keys, cell phone, and Fenix light create in my other pocket.
