I'm an instructor at a martial arts school. I'm exploring the idea of getting a few realistic pistols (in Airsoft or equivalent format) for self-defense training.
While I'm also a CHL holder, the majority of students are *not* gunnies, nor is it my place (or my school!) to preach the virtues of getting your own gun. I'm just interested in providing more realistic 'props' for training purposes.
I've got a couple of specific goals in mind:
- Provide training firearms of realistic size/weight/dimensions
- be able to pull the trigger, at least once, for an auditory report of whether the defender avoided the first shot
- have the option to upgrade to full-face masks and load the airsoft weapon so the attacker can continue to fire, if the defender hasn't yet disarmed or disabled him
With these goals in mind, can anyone give me suggestions on appropriate equipment? Other issues I should keep in mind?
Be certain that you are able to legally use an airsoft gun within your jurisdiction as many ban the use of any "chemically propelled weapon". Also, be very careful of where you shoot as airsoft guns have a bit more "oomph" than many people expect and they will break a typical pane window fairly handily with a miss.
