The hostage is a lower rank than the shooter and also his BIL, whom he (shooter) doesn't like.

    Ah, I miss Colombia... :)
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Wow, they even had another standing silhouette target right next to it they could have easily moved and used instead of even thinking of doing that with a person!

The Special Air Service uses live hostages in their "Killing House." SAS Training - Counter Terrorism

Once the CT teams have devloped the disciplines requried, they will begin to train with live ammunition. Members of the assault teams will take turns at playing hostages whilst their colleagues burst into the room. firing live rounds into targets sometimes very close to them. The Killing House is wired with cctv cameras so the assaults can be watched back and analysed.

    Upon careful reading,

Featuring movable partitions, rubber-coated walls to absorb live rounds...
I know of no rubber coated walls that can "absorb" actual ammunition fired at full power. I suspect the author is confused or misinformed. Possibly they have simunition type ammo? At any rate, there is some ambiguity there as to what a "live round" is...

edit: I see many sources for the use of actual ammo. It seems absorb is not quite the correct word. I think they mean that the walls don't disintegrate after repeated strikes.

Years ago I was both shot at and used as a live hostage. Mainly it was for Sniper Iniated Breaching.

The target was a balloon about 4 inches from my head, you really, really had to trust the shooter and he had to trust me in return. I have trained and have been trained with live fire scenarios where rounds are fired in into either a portable backstop or berm with the shooter engaging from that backstop or berm.

The worst was in a small circle facing outboard when a flash bang is thrown in the center. Once it goes off you must clear your head so to speak and then conduct the breach, engagement or whatever the drill is.

Having said all that using a shotgun I have never nor would I ever pull this stunt. One stray pellet..... There are also vids of him doing the same with a pistol and rifle.
