    UD's in training environment

    I am not promoting anything. Just offering this FYI.

    You all may already get emails from the Personal Defense Network, but anyone who hasn't yet seen this 2nd part article on UD's, might find it very interesting since there has been a lot of discussion on other threads about "What would you do when......"

    Several folks have stated the importance of the proper training, or similar words. This article points out that not only do we not know for sure what we WOULD do, we often have no idea what we DID do when the SHTF.

    Obviously some teaching points were identified. I wonder how the same students would perform on a second run through a scenario?

    As a trainer I found this to be very enlightening

    I found a U.S. Government review of 267 shooting incidents by agents from the FBI, ATF, DEA and U.S. Marshals Service during the period of fiscal years 2000 to 2003. According to the study, a total of 102 (38%) of those shootings were unintentional.

    Thanks for the link and heads up. It's something everyone who carried should be aware of.

    UD = Unintentional Discharge.

    I believe this is "technically" different from an AD, which is an accidental discharge - which some of our members say is a misnomer because the real name should be ND which is a negligent discharge. Those are "incidents" that happen when you are reholstering, cleaning your gun, etc. etc. and so forth.

    These shots were not accidental or negligent in this training scenario. The people in some cases didn't even know they had pulled the trigger - the shots were in a setting where people were PREPARED to shoot, but did so unintentionally.

    Hope that explanation helps. It could be nitpicked.........

    I also hope it is correct

    If the gun is out of the holster and finger on the trigger...but didn't want to fire = negligent...unintentional? Nope.

    Unintentional discharge? Perhaps a urologist of one of those men only clinics could help...

    Very interesting article. This is one reason I feel you need to do FOF at any chance you can get. The more one does things under stress the less stress will effect ones action and that action which you are doing in the situation will be normal. Or at least more so.

    In the hunting field this would be whats known as buck fever.
