If on my own and so able to use any range and discipline, then carry piece or similar is mostly done at 5 to 7 yards. Sometimes with movement drills in as close as 3 yards. All pretty ''close-in'' stuff.

I do also practice carry type handgun practice out to 25 yards so I know where they are impacting.

    I like 7 - 15 yard practice the best.

Try some longer distances Say 15 yrds. Although, with a snubby I might keep 7 or 10 yrds for most of my practice.

With a pistol? Zero to 100 yards. 90% of my practice is inside of 10 yards.

Thanks for all the great feedback!

Glad to hear im in the ballpark. I took my snubby out for the first time today and kept the target at 20 feet. A gun this small definitely takes practice to get used to!

I really don't spend much time trying to punch bullseyes. I carry a 3" Kimber ~ not designed for competition shooting ~ and my main focus is to hit COM within 3 to 15 yards.

I shoot anywhere from 5 to 15 yards, mostly at 7. I shoot as well weak hand, something that takes practice.

sorry im new but Ive heard 'COM' before, what is this?

Of course at the range today other people sent their targets way back, making me feel a bit inferior being a measly 20 feet ;)

but in all honesty theres no scenarios in my house where id be more than 20 feet away from an intruder, so I figure its a good start.

COM= Center Of Mass. Shooting for the center of body. Practice likely distances, not sure what type of sights you have , but witht he short sight radius(frnt to rear sight distance) it is harder to be accurate than a bigger gun.

Zero to about 10 feet or so, mainly point shooting from either the hip or chest level.
Some days I will also practice one and two handed aimed fire from about 7-15 yards.
    All depends upon my mood.

I usually practice from arms length out to maybe 25 to 30 feet. If they are further than that away from me, I am getting the heck out of there if possible.
