Anyone know of any tactical training instructors or courses around Tyler/Houston/Dallas Texas areas?

Would love to get more training. Shoot all the time with hubby and friends, but would like to learn more about the self defense/tactical genres

That is a pretty wide area, lol about 1/3 of the state. But to answer your question no. Although I will be looking at the responses for my own personal benefit.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Thats why I included such a large area. Have friends/family in and around those areas I could stay with to take the course or classes...Plus I figured as big the area, I wouldnt get a NO...lol

I have taken several courses with Brian Hoffner in Houston.

I will likely take more in 2008.

Great!! Thanks....Going to sign up for the Tactical I & II tomorrow if there is an opening for the June class....School teacher so that many days in a row will need to be during the summer break.

If anyone one knows of any single day, or weekend classes around east texas or even close, I would be interested in that too. That would help passify me till June.

Supposedly my chl will be here within two weeks so very excited about getting some more much needed training

We'll be doing our Dynamic Marksmanship Course on 24-25 May 2008, Sat-Sun, in Tyler at the Highway 31 Range. We've taught several classes there in the past. See www.rangemaster.com for details or contact me.

It's not a training course per say, but you might want to try getting into IDPA (International Defense Pistol Association) or some other competetive defensive shooting league. I've learned alot doing just that, not to mention that it's a lot of fun.

Glenn Matthews with Suarez International teaches Defensive Pistol periodically in Tyler. I believe his next class is 16-17 Feb 08.

I can personally vouch for the class and instructor. Glenn is a good teacher and the class is no BS.

+1 for Glenn Matthews, the gunrange on Hgwy 31 in Tyler also has an IDPA club that meets there every month. Great bunch of folks that shoot there .

    Brandy_easttx,

Almost all of the major training companies travel and usually if you host a course you can train for free. Most of the time all you need to do is provide the training organization withthe name of a local range and a time frame and they will do the rest. Usually there is a minimum attendance requirement.

If you are interested in more training and would consider hosting, drop me a line and I can tell you what we offer.

Check out Hot Wells Shooting Range in Houston. Here is a link.

A lot of the Jersey Village police and Harris County Deputies shoot there. It is my favorite range in the area.

Try http://www.texastactical.com . They are located in Weatherford (in the DFW area). I have never used them, but had the opportunity to ride with a Sheriff's deputy that has been through several of their classes and spoke very highly of them. (And his training with them showed. He was several levels above the rest of the deputies that I know from his department.)

Also, Strategos Intl. (http://www.strategosintl.com) offers some awesome training. I'm pretty sure some of their training is restricted to LEOs, but any civilian classes they offer will be well worth it. I went through their Low Light Tactical Instructor course and found it extremely valuable. I will never again look at/respond to low light engagements from the same perspective I used to. Strategos is based in Kansas City, but they bring the class to you, so just watch their calendar for something in your area.

    Troy,
I know that this post is somewhat dated, but could you send some of that information to me?
