Question looking for handgun training- suggestions?

Well, my fiance and i were trying to figure out what to do for our honeymoon and i thought - well whats better than shooting guns?
so we are looking for a good handgun training institute.
Want some good general pistol training- proper technique, etc.
as well as good defensive pistol training.
Thinking maybe a 4 or 5 day class.
What all is out there? I have never looked into this kind of stuff.
Would like it to be under $1000 but ill look into anything.

    currently looking @ blackwatre.
    anyone been there?

Talk with Brownie (AzQkr) here in Arizona, he teaches threat focused skills. You can PM him on this site. It's warmer down here. There are also write-ups in thia foeum regarding the training that some of us have taken.

FWIW my wife and I spend a week in a cabin on a lake....just a thought. You could always make a shooting course your wedding present to each other or something. If you go to Thunder Ranch in Oregon you'll be able to stay in a nice place (the Northwest) and shoot at the same time.

For a Honeymoon I would consider LFI, Gunsite and Thunder Ranch.

LFI for the courtroom stuff and "shooting aftermath survival" stuff, Gunsite for tradition and Thunder Ranch because it's a cool place from all I've heard.

LFI isn't a school, but Massad Ayoob is a "Travelling Instructor". Gunsite and Thunder Ranch are a fixed location.

    Thunder Ranch
    Gunsite
    Hackathorn's school (forgot name)

Those are the only one's I'd go to.

Sorry for the large list, just trying to help.

I haven't been to gunsite in AZ, but took a course in MA.
    Very much enjoyed it.
If you can afford it I would go for Gunsite, it would no doubt be lots
    of fun.

Thunder Ranch would no doubt be great too, however I looked at there schedule earlier and they are booked the entire year already.

I looked at the Thunder Ranch schedule again, looks like there are a few openings later in the year I missed in that sea of FULL's.

Schedule here: Thunder Ranch® Oregon Course Schedule
