    Training in Calif.

Living in Southern California I can't help in your search. I was trained by our local sheriff's department, and on my own attended Front Sight for a 4 day handgun course a couple of times. I suggest you get together with a friend and take a course at Front Sight. They have good 2 day classes, and this time of year the weather is bearable. I have seen them train people that have NEVER handled a firearm, and leave the class with tons of confidence. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.Good luck in your search. Oh,and Front Sight is not far from Las Vegas.

Get out of that communist state for a week. Neighboring Arizona and Nevada have great programs. Do yourself a favor and look into Gunsite, it's an institution. Nevada has Front Sight, but I have personal problems with their "sales" techniques. If you want a unique, useable, realistic program, watch for Brownie's "Quick Kill" pistol training that comes up regularly around the country, but several times a year in Arizona. I just did a weekend session and learned more than I have in years. Here's his website...

There should be plenty of training in Nevada, Arizona or Utah. Check out the forum sponsors and see if any of their locations, offerings, dates fit. I doubt you will find much around San Francisco....

Given SF had a handgun ban for awhile it isn't exactly a target rich market for gun schools. SLC should be better.

Reed's is where Lou Awerbuck has classes (see my link, above). The consensus in the training community is that there is no one better than Awerbuck.

It is. In SF, you can drive elsewhere to train with the weapons, but you can't own or carry them....

I think we are straying form the OP's question. I will leave you with one question, how many CCW's were issued in California compared to the state of Illinois? Chow.

    1. If the OP hooks up with Awerbuck, his/her training needs are met, hence the thread purpose fulfilled.
    2. Comparing CA (specifically, urban CA) to IL in hopes of finding anything RKBA-worthy is like comparing Marx to Engels in hopes of finding which had better free market bona fides.
